Exclusive Review: JIMMY ABNEY - "Hello" (Martin Faltin Remix) (CD-R)
Martin Faltin takes on Jimmy Abney's "Hello" (taken form the recently released Return To Forever album, available on Yoruba Records) bringing the loungey original to the soulful dancefloors by adding a laidback groove underneath the original orchestration on his 'Smooth Remix', while the 'Dope Remix' makes use of heavy beats and drums to intensify the vibe while keeping it soulful all the way.
H&H SOULSURVIVORS featuring CAZZA - "He'll Be Right There" (Remixes) (Beat Monkey/CD Promo)
The beautiful "He Will Be Right There" by H&H Soulsurvivors gets wonderfully reworked by Jonny Montana who takes the bumpy broken beat track that features an inspirational vocal courtesy of Cazza to the next level by using a smooth yet captivating groove and masterly performed keys and synths (you can choose between vocal and instrumental versions). Also included in the package is a remix by Calssy Menace who takes the track straight to the main floor with his energetic vibe.
NAKED SOUL featuring GLENN UNDERGROUND "Muzic EP" (Music Plan Tracks/CD Promo)
DJ Fritz (aka Soul Child) and DJ Pap are Naked Soul who team up with Glenn Underground on this magnificent three track deep house EP. Kicking things off is the smoothly stompin' "Chicago Connection" that features sexy female vocals alongside atmospheric keys and chords over a percussion enriched groove, followed by "Free Form" which is on a more relaxed vibe and features marvelous jazzy keys alongside wicked percussion elements. Lastly there is the fast paced "Los Hermanos" that combines jazzy keys with classy horns and atmospheric synths into an uplifting dancefloor shaker.
MATTHEW BANDY - "Human" (Revival Records/CD Promo)
This… "Human" is real deepness, with thumpin' beats leading the way for sweet percussion, melodic synths, lush organ chords and a wicked male spoken word. Jamie Thinnes relaxes the vibe on this 'Seasons Revisited Mix', giving it a laidback feeling with sweet keys, while Jay Tripwire uses hard hitting beats and spaced-out synths to create a piece of interstellar deep house. Lastly there is the moody 'Mikez Creation Edit' that drops most of the vocals while adding a hot guitar and cool synths.
MUSICAL SOLUTION presents BPM featuring PETE SIMPSON - "Sing It" (Reelgroove/CD Promo)
Musical Solution team up with singer Pete Simpson to deliver a soulful house masterpiece featuring an outstanding vocal that comes your way in a variety of breath taking mixes. First is John Mateo whose vocal is a smooth laidback affair full of wonderful melodies, while the dub gets way deeper and takes the track to the underground floors with a pumpin' feel and captivating chords. Label head Greg Dorban's interpretation is masterly orchestrated and oozes with its classy soul/funk flavors, while Central Avenue deliver peak time magic on their 'Club Dub' that features catchy synths over a resistless bumpy groove. Last but not least there is Darryl James' reworking that gives the track an organic feel, keeping the vibe deep and soulful.
DJ APHREME featuring DONNA HIDALGO - "Your Love" (Consortium Muzik/CD Promo)
DJ Aphreme (aka Martin Mamzer) presents an energetic yet soulful production featuring a passionate vocal performance by Donna Hidalgo over a fiercely stormin' groove enriched with wicked synths and melodic chords that together with the vocals create an irresistible feeling. DJ Oji delivers a splendid re-edit of the song that twists a few things here and there, giving you the choice between two equally slammin' vocal takes. An instrumental completes the package.
MIX2INSIDE featuring JOYCE ELAINE YUILLE - "My Best Thing" (Part Two) (Mix2Inside/CD Promo)
Italian label Mix2Inside/Pret A' Porter Music return with a soulful remix package of "My Best Thing" which features a passionate vocal by songstress Joyce Elaine Yuille. The 'Soul Eternity Vox' is spreading an uplifting feeling through the vocals and organic instrumentation that has a real live touch to it. The 'Naked Sax Remix' gives the whole a more laidback and deeper feel, with parts of the vocals stripped to let a jazzy sax do the talk. M-Sol comes up with a fiercely thumpin' instrumental remix to the release that is all about phat keys, sweet synths and a lovely funky guitar.
SONNY J MASON - "Life Is The Music" (Salted Music/CD Promo)
London's Sonny J Mason delivers a beauty with "Life Is The Music", a midtempo soul stomper that is oozing with its funk, hip hop and R&B flavors, featuring an uplifting vocal with positive meaning. Miguel Migs reshapes the track for the house floors, with his 'Salted Vocal' being an infectious funky house reworking with lush synths that brings out the best of the uplifting vocals. His 'Salted Dub Deluxe' strips it down and lets the synths turn slightly techy, while the 'Bump the Tech Dub' uses an old school flavored breakbeat groove as playground for a gritty bassline and wicked synths. Lastly there is the beautiful 'Petalpusher Vocal' which is a melodic deep house interpretation with a great breakdown that makes use of that massive breakbeat groove introduced in the 'Bump the Tech Dub'.
URSULA RUCKER - "Untitled Flow" (Kenny Dope & Franck Roger Remixes) (Vega Records/Digital Download)
One of last year’s biggest underground tracks is back in fresh remixes by Kenny Dope and Franck Roger who both add their unique touch to spoken word-led "Untitled Flow" by Ursula Rucker. Kenny Dope's fiercely stormin' mixes feature an acid-tinge which maximize the spoken words into a hypnotizing affair, while Franck Roger takes the track to deeper grounds on a slightly dark techified edge. Digital downloads available at Dancetracks
DJ DEALER featuring LISA MILLETT - "You're All I Need" (Look At You/CD Promo)
This is the first single lifted from DJ Dealer's Joyride album, with Lisa Millett providing the inspirational vocals on this cover of the Ashford & Simpson classic. Lots of versions to choose from, with DJ Dealer offering the original (album) version, a 'Chorus Dub' and instrumental. Staffan Thorsell and MoD team up on a deepened down affair featuring great keys and synths over thumpin' beats, while Joe DiPadova & Shea Marshall give the track a kickin' edge with wicked synths accompanying the vocals. Charles Dockins goes dark and dirty with his acid-tinged take, while Tony Loreto turns out a deep anthemic reworking featuring lush synths and chords (now do we hear some reminiscence to the classic Frankie Knuckles remix of Melanie Williams' "Everyday Thang"?). Lastly Madueno delivers a hypnotizing dub with phat synth stabs.
YASS - "My Only" (Defected/CD Promo)
Up and rising French producer Yass drops his latest bomb "My Only" featuring a passionate vocal performance by Leslie O'Smith over a resistless percussion enriched groove, with the captivating keys and chords perfectly harmonizing with the vocals to create an uplifting feeling that is guaranteed to ignite the dancefloors. The 'Deepa Dub' drops most of the vocals for a deeper vibe, while the 'Peaktime' mixes (vocal and dub) fire things up a bit for an even more intense vibe perfect for those bigger rooms or peak time play.

IDM News: TraxsourceINDAMIX (HOUSE, GARAGE & OTHER ILLICIT GROOVES...) Issue # 10
|
Time’s flying as ever with, as announced on our previous Issue, a new delivery of not to be missed goodies aptly designed to heat our hearts, bodies & souls during the Summer, be they vocal, abstract, banging and eventually chilling. Welcome to this already 10th installment of our fortnightly rendez-vous…

One word if you allow me before goin’ any further as to remain true to my reputation of being someone who’s never minced words…Quite ironical to see to see how the dematerialization of media has to some extend made the things harder for us – the reputedly observers – to be provided with the infos… the music in order to simply do our job at the most acurate time. And although I may understand the fear of some people to have their sales potential ruined because of eventual illegal sharing, I guess I’ll never stand the attitude of a handful of those who, being addressed messages, never give a single answer. Quite a curious conception of PRing I would be tempted to say, if not civility within a scene which has been suffering from a lack of visibility for an eternity despite the existence of real talents deserving far more than what’s offered to them nowadays. Anyway, understand this whoever will… Time to focus on (far) more positive sides and God (hopefully) knows how there are many…
Summer has never seemed so close and it’s definitively perceptible musically speakin’ with countless cool, friendly, inspiring, atmospheric vibes comin’ out at the moment. As if there was A need for both intimacy and more elaborated productions as opposed to the reputedly festive gang banging stuff destined to fill the biggest floors of the world, beginning with Beefa (Ooops, sorry… Ibiza)!
Definitely far from the aforementioned is Gabriele Poso’s new offering on Yoruba. A 4 tracker consisting in as many remixes of his From The Genuine World album released 3 months ago with our favorite being the smooth & sensous ‘Afrika’ as subtly redesigned by Ezel over a bossa-influenced groove enlightened by aerial synth parts. Rhythm is definitely not (only) a matter of beats. There’s something of both the Naked Music label and Sade on the subtle arrangements delivered by Vincent Valler on his Main Mix of Funktrain featuring Nica Brooke’s aptly titled ‘Sweetly’ sounding like a magnificient blend of atmospheric soul with a slice of pop feel such as championed by Everything But The Girl back in the day (Reelgroove). No matter what or how… The Brits have never reached higher… peaks than when being left with the opportunity to fully express who they are, as brilliantly demonstrated during the acid jazz/rare groove/Brit-soul era from the end of the eighties til the middle of the nineties with Kenny Thomas adding his name to the list back then… And the story to repeat itself nowadays with ‘Sunshine Girl’, an absolute fresh song as reworked by UK DJ/remixer Phil Hooton designing a subtly arranged jazzy environment for much on the ‘friendliness’ of this seducing cool swing (Soul-Fi).

Embedding that soul freshness on their repertoire since day 1 Stateside are without a single doubt Tortured Soul with ‘Your Dream Is My Dream’ taken from their third album to be released after the festive period being NO exception… Distant Music man Jon Cutler adding what it takes to make this a not to be missed affair and definitive alltime classic (Coco Soul). UK band Reel People alongside front man Darien givin’ the aforementioned their clue with the old school sounding ‘Upside’ as retouched by Karizma, somehow reminding of Jamiroquai’s works (Papa Records). Meanwhile Ian Friday goes the opposite way givin’ a subtle NYC flavoured tessiture to the vibrant ‘Broken Dreams’ by the likes of UK collective Ceramic featuring Aisling Stephenson (NYC Soul). Jellybean Soul adding two new episodes to their impressive series of must haves with the brilliant ‘The Lover That You Are’ as remixed by George Mena & Marlon D for Pulse with Antoinette Robertson’s vocal performance somehow reminding of Chaka Khan and Darryl D’Bonneau’s ‘Miracles’ as bumpingly revamped by Jon Cutler…
I guess this may sound far from realistic, but can’t help myself wishin’ good music to be played in big rooms as opposed to the usual flow of seeminglike crap displayed here and there year after year for so long!!! The boiling hot ‘Lover Forevermore Amen’ by Bobby D’Ambrosio alongside female singer Kelli Sae sounding like quite an appropriate choice for the occasion. It’s inspiring, it’s groovy, it’s enlightening, and (of course) it’s definitely entertaining with our preference going to both the sultry Osio Club Mix and the epic B&E’s Save Our Soul Dub (Soulfuric). Meanwhile Dutch pair Roog & Greg aka Hardsoul give a trancey feel to ‘Nothing Better Than Your Lovin’ by the likes of T.J. Cases featuring Natalie Broomes currently causin’ some serious devastation in the clubs (Hardsoul Pressings) with the tribalish ‘Empire Of Africa’ by DJ Romain which we’ve welcomed as our Single Of The Week during the Miami Conf’ deserving a careful listen (Nu Faze)…
Not many are those inclined to vary the pleasures and as a result display a real versatility. Thanks if I may say so to the formats diktat, and props due to Chicago wizard Abicah Soul (Project) for not missing an occasion to show the various sides as to who he is from a release to another with the infamous Part 2 Peak Mix of his eponym cut takin’ us to some deep jazzy tech-influenced frenzy (Abicah Soul Records). We made room for Joe Flame’s ‘Love Is Blind’ on the last issue of TSIDM as a part of his substancial recent efforts. Here we go again this time with the deep and abstract ‘Night Lights’ displaying that plaintive emphasis which would be for much on Larry Heard’s reputation along the years (D#Sharp).
It’s jazzy, it’s groovy, it’s chillin’ it’s soulful and (of course) it’s definitely vibin’. Well it’s pretty much what made the signature of another Chicago hi-lite playin’ keys like no other. His name? GU equally known as Glenn Underground with the exquisite ‘Adore You’ featuring female singer Roxy delivered in two absolute not to be missed versions (Strictly Jaz Unit). Hard not to establish some parental link with the aforementioned while listening to hyperactive Scott Wozniak’s gorgeous ‘Love & Life’, here as well on a deep’n’jazzy sort of plaintive tip over a circular bassline (Refresh). And this series of abstract deep vibes to go further way with NYC-based producer Cassady Locke droppin’ the organ-led ‘1968’ over an Afro-beat influenced rhythm (Esho).
It’s deep, it’s abstract, it’s atmospheric, it’s hypnotizing and (no doubt) it’s definitely devastating with chances to put the Ibiza dancefloors on fire. It’s title? ‘Dancing Strings’ with reminiscences of Sueño Latino’s eponym classic and Soul Central’s… ‘Strings Of Life’ to be credited to vet producer Wayne Gardiner (CIMA). Kerri Chandler sort of going back to da roots with the old school deep acidic vocoderized ‘Fortran’ standing as the absolute piece of choice out of his recent Computer Games LP on French Deeply House Rooted label. Putting an end to our rendez-vous with another subtle blend courtesy of Terry Hunter givin’ a Giorgio Moroder-ish deeplectrodisco tip tinged with jazzy and funky vibes on his fascinating remix of Leonard Part Sixx’s ‘Strobelight Revival’ (T’s Box).
That’s it from us now. Back to you in a fortnight… With usual thanks to spiritofhouse.com and udmshow.com for givin’ extra exposure to this column… Peace y’all. MFSB

IDM News: TraxsourceINDAMIX (HOUSE, GARAGE & OTHER ILLICIT GROOVES...) Issue # 9
|
Hey, how r’ U doin’, sorry can’t get thru, why don’t you leave your name… Guess you know the rest as we do or should I say we did no later than a week ago with the crash or a hard disk which has got us out of our editorial planning, meaning by that that you’ll be offered 2 issues of our column from this week til the next one with tons of goodies to feed your apetites. So better get your credit cards ready and I’m not even talkin’ about commissioning us for the prescriptional service!!!
A bit more than a month and the festive locations will be taken by storm by cohorts of tourists from all over the places on the North hemisphere of the globe with no bigger wish than escape from reality and legitimately have good time. Hopefully, we look set to be provided with the good vibes that come with. Thanks to our champions…
Quite a while without hearin’ from Glenn Lewis. Our man signs a winning return alongside producer Terry Hunter with the friendly ‘Stay With Me’ enligthened by a Stevie Wonder-influenced interpretation alongside a killing rhythmic guitar part and lush key arrangements over a rumblin’ bassline (T’s Box). Not that much interesting on offer I’m afraid on the remix package of Peyton & The Rhythm Republic’s ‘Never Give Up’ unless being geared towards harder vibes as delivered on the Drive Remix. But at least the opportunity to get back to the explosive Club Mix which was included on the original release for those who’ve missed it a couple of months ago (Peppermint Jam). Always had a particular feel for California-based DJ/producer Stephen Rigmaiden’s approaches. Once gain, he delivers a syncopated intoxicating rhythm, teamin’ up with 5 star vocalist Darryl D’ Bonneau on ‘Sent From Above’. Meanwhile hyperactive Scott Wozniak on the remix duties gives it a typical NYC flavor (Devotion)…
An obvious search for intimacy seems the least to be said about Chez Music label’s return to the release front with the deep & smooth organ-led ‘Triumph’ by the likes of Rob Salmon. Scott… Wozniak adding a drop of depth to the whole with his killing synth lines on his alternative versions. And the same comment to apply to the smooth and sort of plaintive ‘Love Is Blind’ taken from the countless current deliveries to be credited to Joe Flame (D#Sharp). Good music is… yup: timeless! Another proof bein’ given with the rerelease of Abicah Soul Project featuring G.U.’s ‘City Of Jericho’ where is to expect nothing but the very best from the reunion of those two absolute geniuses on this not to be missed jazzy & moody cool groove which should appeal to those into chillin’ atmospheric vibes such as – guess you start knowing who I mean – Jose Padilla, Phil ‘Cantoma’ Mison and Chris ‘Coco’ Mellor (Abicah Soul Records). On a slightly more repetitive/minimalistic mood, Brighton-based producer Bittersuite delivers the bumpin’ ‘Visions’ on a very fascinating way (DeepSystems). Meanwhile, completing the series, comes the abyssal ‘Soulsa’ on a sensuous Latin/jazzy-influenced vein courtesy of Marcelo Cruz enlightened by a seducive sax solo responding to a vibrant key part (Deepnsound).
Brindisi’s famous Beppe Gioia back to his native country after a couple of months by the sunny shores of Miami goin’ deep, abstract and percussive on the moody sort of World-influenced ‘Ivory’ delivered in 4 # versions on Florida-based label Sofitone Records. More surprising is his Lounge Mix of ‘Untitled Fantasy’ under the Soul Oasis presents Beppe Gioia banner on Cyberjamz where he may be heard flirting with bossa, meting deep & jazzy vibes over a lascive groove. Sure to find some bumpin’ stuff when being offered to listen to a new package by the likes of Melchyor A with ‘The Next Big Thing’ being no exception and more precisely the Afro-jazzy flavaed Original Mix over old school friendly spoken words (Soulful Sessions).
Boston, Ma definitely lookin’ set to make itself a place on the map, this time with Universal Tongues alongside male singer Laurel White reachin’ the absolute heights on the infectious soul & jazzy ‘Open Up Your Mind’ and, no surprisingly, the # 1 position on our top 10 this week (Utopia Boston). At the pursuit of the 13th note??? DJ/producer Roland Clark providing exactly what it takes on the hypnotizing ‘Intoxicated’ with awesome keys takin’ the sensuous spoken words performance courtesy of Soul Tempress to anotha level on his Intoxisoul Mix (Delete Records).
2008 should not doubt be a year to remember for Germany-based jock/producer Ralf GUM not only awaited to get married during the Summer, but also because of the current release of his debut LP (Uniting Music) on his own GoGo Music imprint. A subtly crafted collection of fine grooves flirting with broken beat, Afro, Latin and jazz influences (not to mention house) alongside a whole bunch of talented vocalists, with Nicolas Vautier’s usual partner in crime Rachel Claudio taking the centerstage on ‘If No Harm’ adding much to the emphasis of this brilliant and classy production. More about our man on an interview to be published this Sunday here on IDMW. In this world of continuous movement, better have one’s own identity… That’s no surprisingly where are to be found Mood II Swing with their bumpin’ revamp of Shuya Okino featuring Diviniti’s ‘Shine’ carrying the distinctive elements which have made their trademark along the years. Louis Benedetti signing the perfect crime on the remix package of Bobbi D’Ambrosio featuring Arif ST Michael’s ‘Girl You Need A Change Of Mind’ and more precisely the hot and directive Club Mix over a hard and destructive bassline courtesy of Gene Perez (Soulshine Recordings). Hard to resist to the Doll Combers MonaLeslie Mix of Diva Down Entertainment’s ‘Praise Always’ with the ever inspired SuSu Bobien delivering the very best as usual for those into serious gospel house jams (Gotta Keep Faith). Meanwhile Fabio Tosti brings us back to the reputedly good ol’ days on his blues & jazzy inspired mix of ‘Take Me Down’ sharing the production duties alongside Logicalgroove featuring Savio Vurchio (Music Plan). See ya all next week for another delivery of unmissable cuts. Peace y’all. MFSB

IDM News: NEW! BEATJOINTnugroove (SOUL, JAZZ, BREAKS, BROKEN BEATS + MORE…) # 1
|
More reviews, more genres represented here on IDMW with the big return of a man who was among its original editorial line up by the likes of J’M Irie as a part of our recent partnership deal with beatjoint.com.
BEATJOINTnugroove (SOUL, JAZZ, BREAKS, BROKEN BEATS + MORE…) # 1
Welcomin’ those of you joinin’ us on this Beatjoint news section. This week we go even deeper indeed as we are starting with a spotlight on – hear me now! - the complete catalogue of Basic Channel Records! Remember who brought back the classic reggae dub sounds of Wackies (check our blog section for a full focus on them)? Basic Channel did it! Say who? Basic Channel, the legendary minimal techno production team and record label, composed of Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus from Berlin… Always hidden in the shadow, remaining elusive as their music is… But they are still strong after 15 years of activity. We bring you no less but their extensive collection of essential dub techno releases (which had been - ever since it came out- rare and highly collectable items, vinyl-only tracks under various aliases that became some kind of holy Grail for many Detroit Techno and Dub appreciators to the point where it is regarded reverently like King Tubby or UR best works). The mysterious duo set up a studio in Berlin, in a building which was eventually the HQ of Mark Ernestus’ distributing company and shop Hard Wax, and the label's mastering studio Dubplates & Mastering, set up to ensure a unique sound with a desired dynamic quality for the vinyl. The Basic Channel imprint ceased business in 1995 (apart from two releases almost a decade later that were originally issued on Carl Craig's Planet E label), but were followed by a string of similar labels. Among the most important were Chain Reaction, which released non Von Oswald/Ernestus productions and helped launching the careers of dub-influenced minimal techno producers such as Monolake and Porter Ricks but also Basic Replay geared into reggae and dancehall re-issues. Main Street, for house-related releases. And Burial Mix and Rhythm & Sound which saw the duo's sound move away from the Detroit blueprint and get closer to vocal-lead dub and reggae. Their With The Artists album, released under the Rhythm & Sound banner featured celebrated reggae and dancehall vocalists such as Sugar Minott (not to mention all the aforementionned re-issues of Wackies).
Next up, as we announced you before right here comes Robert Owens on Michael Reinboth’s unstoppable Munich-based imprint Compost Records hitting us with a new album, Night-Time Stories”. On this splendid record, our man proves that he was and still is ever on point ever since the birth of house music in the early 80’s (he was the voice behind anthems like Mr Fingers’s “Can You Feel It?” or Franckie Knuckles “Tears”). To record his first artist album in ten years Owens has hooked up with Wahoo, Charles Webster, Jimpster, Atjazz and Kirk Degiorgio to create a beautiful soulful journey… Night times stories as sweet musical allegories that evolve from R&B to techno and a lot of deep house moods inbeetween.

We slow it down (like Brand Nubian used to say) with another voice to be reckon with… the man they call OlivierDaySoul (we were some of the very firsts to big up this singular soul singer. Also hold tight for a focus on him in our blog section very soon)… Now hear this all soul and beat headz, keep your ears widely opened as we keep digging somewhere far out and exuberant between Prince or Andre 3000/Outkast, Madlib, Wajeed and Flying Lotus… There gracely lies OlivierDaySoul from Washington DC! With a bad first album called “Kilowatt” on 4 Lux confirming his promissing vynil debut full of dope modern day soul songs (remember our recommandation for "Brain", a tight leftfield joint alla Spacek produced by him and Paulo. while the flipside "Potion 9" produced by Unknown explored more R&B territories). Well don’t you stop boucing and check this record produced by Oddisee, Unknown, Planet Mohawk, Hudson Mohawk, Paulo and the phunky polymorphic Dutch dude known as Gerd.
Also check out Eye Beta Rock’s “Super Rock Body Shock”. A great limited re-issue of an obscure disco synth bomb from the early 80's by Daryl Cameron. Includes a very nice Gerd dub. Just a 400 copies limited edition run, no repress. Electro-disco alert !
And again rejoice! Who said one can’t find nu soulful voices in the music game nowadays? Yet another one to show them wrong! Memorize this name: Middle Child. She’s teaming up with J.Rawls on a project simply named J.Rawls & Middle Child with an eponym album (here available in its prestigious Japanese edition). Spread the word: Middle Child is a golden voice from Youngstown, Ohio who hooked up with local producer, the very talented J.Rawls. Her voice is kind of reminiscent to India Arie and her lyrics are clever and catchy. For those connoisseurs who praise him for years to the average hip hop head-nodeer J.Rawls reminds us his great taste and diversity beatmaking wize, from making classic R&B to soft rock to hip-hop sampladelic jams. A lack of decent soul this year you said? Maybe on MTV Base‘s whack playlist but look further, there is more than meets the eye…like Rawls & Middle who definitely hit raw in the middle! Such as Nicolay & Kay from North Carolina. A dynamic hip-hop duo influenced by Tribe, De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers and the whole Native Tongues family… Hip hop like we’ll always love here with the release of their “Time:line” which is a concept record about the life cycle. Hard to sell? Well even with a great LP on BBE a few years ago, Nicolay still didn’t get a lot of mainstream attention but it won’t stop them, as striving dedicated indie artists they maximize on the quality of what they do and keep it up. Just like them we believe that true good music with integrity lasts longer than big disposable quantity. Support the cause!
An ethic close to DJ Buzz on a adequatly named label, Personal records. Having all those good examples in music history in mind, no matter if it is jazz, hip-hop, brazil, rocksteady or disco, the Personal team celebrate their ten year anniversary with DJ Buzz “In Between Blue & Black”. Their brand new recent release after a 4 year hiatus with some 7-Inch biz from DJ Buzz, well known as 1/3 of Austrian Hip-Hop/Funk/Electronic-Combo Waxolutionists and mastermind of the Supercity Soundsystem. The Waxolutionists Band with Rappers Deph Joe & Manuva and Musicians like the Twin Towas, etc... Too many names? Just let the music do the talking!
Let us also recommand you Metropolitan Jazz Affair’s MJA. Metropolitan Jazz Affair is the initial project from 3 main figures on the French jazz and soul scenes. They intend to dig a little deeper in a modern soul/jazz direction, without forgetting what it originally is: a music for the soul that can shake your legs! This album, originally released in 2003 is produced by Patchworks, a Lyon-based producer known for his collaborations on projects such as The Dynamics, Uptown Funk Empire and more! The crew features Stephane Ronget (also know as the Rongetz Fo undation) on trumpet and Benjamin Devigne on Pianos. Guest vocalist Mr Day is performing too on this record. He brings a soulful flavor to the MJA vibe ! This album was followed by a second one in 2007 on German label InfraCOM!
And we finish off with Mombasa’s “African Rhythms And Blues 2”. The group being a very respected afro-funk band created in 1976 by Lou Blackbun, Doug Lucas, Bob Reed, Don Ridgeway and Alan Tatham. This is here the seminal re-issue of their original second LP release: deep Afro jazz/funk by Lou Blackburn and his wicked group recorded 1976 in Germany - a top rare album originally released on German imprint Spiegelei label, containing the sought after DJ-spins "African Hustle", "Yenyeri" and "Shango II" then mastered this year from the master tapes, with original cover artwork, and re-released for the first time. Monster album! Far out we went, from dub techno to Afro-beat and beyond… roots & future we are for ever! So until next time: one love!

Featuring songstress Antoinette Roberson, these new mixes simply will blow you away with the mesmerizing drums and bass, passionate uplifting vocals, marvelous keys and lush strings and synths that come together to create a hands in the air anthem, perfectly served over six mixes (two vocal, dub, instrumental, percapella and beats) that are fierce yet soulful while oozing with deep and sexy vibes.

Exclusive Preview: THE MAXX - "Savin' Myself" (Mantree Records/CD Promo)
Rasmir presents some serious deepness here with "Savin' Myself" courtesy of The Maxx. The 'Deep Mix' is as deep as it gets and has a raw and funky underground feel to it, with stompin' beats and melodic keys leading the way for the sexy vocals and spaced-out synths. The 'Dub Mix' is great alteration with some extra funky elements and crazed-out keys. The 'Percussive Mix' puts the percussion elements and drums center stage to give the track a resistless tribalized feel. This very mix is taken to the next level on the 'UK Mix' which adds some hot funky flavors to it.

This slammin' EP lets you choose between four differently flavored deep house tracks. IDM News: TraxsourceINDAMIX (HOUSE, GARAGE & OTHER ILLICIT GROOVES...) ISSUE # 8
|
Show must go on… As you may guess, nuttin’ good to expect when bein’ reminded those words taken from famous pop band Queen. And the fact is with our community once more affected with the recent loss of one of its members by the likes of the late K.T. Brooks who’s passed away some 10 days ago. Kind hard as well not to think of NYC vet DJ/producer DJ Camacho currently hospitalized and, as if wasn’t already enuff, facing hard times financially speakin’. Needless to say how your help will be greatly appreciated with donations to be forwarded to Leslie J. Jeudy 345 Bloomfield Avenue, Ste 2 Montclair, NJ 07042-3601 and any kind of recomforting message to be sent to our brother to the following address: C/o David Camacho (RM # 2408) St Barnabas Medical Center94 Old Short Hills Road Livingston, NJ 07039. This Issue # 08 is dedicated to both of’em with eternal love…

Can’t resist goin’ back to these words courtesy of Osunlade in regards to a recent affair of illegal share which has taken a part of our community by storm over the last days. Once again, let me humbly remind you how despite being quite e-z and tempting on occasions, whatever we may share belongs more likely to other people, meaning that we don’t have a single right on those files apart from using them as a media to listen to music or see images. Also, let’s never forget than whenever we individually spare money when sharing, it’s money that doesn’t go into the pocket of the one producing the music that we love, with the risk of killing them on a more or less short term. So needless to say once again how pretending to be a supporter of our scene means investing on it in order to keep it alive and, as a direct result, to have it blowing our minds, bodies & souls…

Exactly what happens as a matter of fact when listening to the sultry and stirring ‘Merry Go Round’ which sees US songstress Kimara Lovelace reaching absolute heights on this cool jazzy phonk atmospheric midtempo enlightened by ultra subtle arrangements courtesy of UK pair Sueno Soul. Can’t get my ears off this since I discovered it on Abicah Soul’s recent top 10 here on TS. Definitely to be featured on the 10 cuts who make my own merry go round dis year (Newlite Muzik). ‘Che va piano, va sano’ says famous Italian proverb. Three years have gone since Osunlade was given a demo by Maryland-based female singer Tamara Wellons who’s awaited debut-LP is to see the light in the coming weeks. A sign of obvious care in both the maturation of her undeniable talent and the concept of her album speakin’ of which we’re given another blatant proof with the new offshot from her album, ‘Like Rain’ left c/o a whole bunch of 1st class remixers incl. Abicah Soul, Lars Behrenroth, Nomumbah and Jihad Muhammad (Ocha Records). The latest addin’ a slice of melancholy if not darkness to the semantic meaning of the song both with a synth line reminiscent of Fingers Inc’s classic ‘Can You Feel It’ and jazzy plaintive piano parts. Vibrant, to say the least!
‘We Belong Together’… Here comes what could have easily become IDMW’s slogan as far as (good) music is concerned. As a matter of fact, it’s Donna Hidalgo’s latest offering giving her the opportunity to make her debut on hotter than hot Poji Records label this year. Good to have back to the forefront this talented lady after a couple of promising experiences back in the beginning of the nineties on this DJ Oji’s production showcasing the undeniable skills of DJ Buzzard on the remix duties… On that same stable, don’t you ever miss Una’s ‘The Weekender’ as remixed by Abicah Soul. Their reunion givin’ birth to a fascinating piece of frenzy deep lectro soul/funk. And da beat brilliantly goes on for NYC label Funk La Planet with the shining ‘Lion In Cage’ by French pair Alex Finkin & Reverend P featuring Jocelyn Mathieu customized with the right ingredients to make it a festive sure shot winner by the ever inspired Jon Cutler who’s added a killer synth line.

Although nothing really new, in terms of inspiration Carlos Rubio’s ‘Una Familia’ is a brilliant tribute to the so called Philly Sound and those incredible arrangements which make it as timeless back then delivered by Vincent Montana Jr. And here we go with a radiant extrapolation of MFSB’s ‘Love Is The Message’/Salsoul Orchestra’s ‘Love Break’ with lush key jazzy arrangements courtesy of Davide Marani. Bravissimo signori (Distar). At the opposite end is the deep acidic-influenced ‘Digilove’ by Jeremias Santiago displayin’ a sort of plaintive emphasis over lectro bleepylike keys, reminicent of the early 90’s UK sound (FTL). Ever prolific Franck Roger does it again on his latest 2 tracker goin’ abstract garagey on ‘Klubhead’ with my preference goin’ to the Giorgio Moroder-influenced ‘Gigolo’ touching the deeper heights with its emphatic synth lines (Real Tone).
No need havin’ a wide angle lens on your camera to realize how things fit as far as music is concerned. Just see how people are bumpin’ their heads while havin’ a drink and you’ll have the beginning of an answer. Alton Miller’s ‘Together’ is nuttin’ but one of those grooves which captures the listener with the ability to transform it into an all-night long dance with a single click on a button, from the very first note. Nothing really complicated though: just the right elements at the right place! A cool bongo-driven beat, some lush key/synth arrangements used as a rhythm line, an infectious phonky bassline, a sensitive interpretation with warm lyrics, being for much on the intimacy of this cool groover. In other words what I’d be tempted to consider it a irresistibly seductive slice of modern soul (Seed Recordings). Back from a recent trip to his native Africa and currently working on his awaited debut album to be released later this year, Boddhi Satva delivers another blatant illustration of his mixed background, twistin’ African chants with bits’n’bops inherited from the local folkore over lectrosynthesized FX. All of this givin’ birth to a deep-notizing environment such as the insane ‘Stop Black Magic’ opening the package. ‘The Depth Of The Source’ getting even deeper with Yuba on the MC’s seat delivering an incantation over an infectious jam leadin’ straight to the epicenter of a cross-bred universe melding 2 different cultures, but also 2 different periods (if not much more) - and, as a direct consequence, different flavors - together as one. Satva affirming his identity like he’s probably never done before and that’s pretty much what we like…
More to come in a fortnight with TraxsourceINDAMIX now available both on Spiritofhouse.com and udmshow in addition to IDMW. Peace y’all. MFSB

IDM News: BUGZ IN DA HOUSE... by BIG CEE
|

BUGZ IN DA HOUSE…
Whatever our said modern world would be without the help of technology? Obviously not the point of Chicago-based Consortium Muzik label head Big Cee makin’ his official debut on IDMW’s editorial team. But rather more of how it could be without the presence of pirates or should I say hackers regularly ruining its undeniable convenience…
Over the last week, there has been a great deal of speculation about a certain DJ and his ability to gain access to an alarming number of unreleased projects from various artists, producers and record labels. This is how it began for me in late January 2008, I was alerted that there was a blog that hosts numerous mixes consisting of unreleased material from my label and many others. I was dismayed my material was in the hands of anyone outside my immediate circle of producers, artist and selected DJ's. I wanted to see for myself and upon accessing this blog I found several of my unreleased projects had been a mainstay in the mixes of the DJ for months prior and wonder how this was possible…
Needless to say I became very suspect of the producers and remixers in my camp and started an internal investigation to seal this obvious leak. Before pointing the finger I also consulted with several other producers whose material was also prevalent in these mixes. I wanted to find the common denominator that linked us all. I spoke in detail with Gene King of Shine records who is a good friend and also a victim of this unauthorized access to unreleased material. Gene was most disturbed by these finding because material he had only completed in recent days was already appearing in the playlist of this DJ on his blog. The only common factor was the use of AOL Instant Messenger, I then went directly to this DJ and asked him how was he able to gain access to my material as did Gene. Well of course, the latest was very vague on his explanation and would give no details and felt he was doing us all a great favor by promoting our… stolen music. He claimed he knew several producers who regularly sent him their projects, but this didn't sit well with me because I knew for a fact Gene King hadn't sent this guy anything yet all his most recent music was being played in these mixes. Still being unsure of source of this leak, I continued to search for an answer and solution. I was almost sure this DJ had ability to intercept AOL Instant Messenger transmission and performed several searches on Google for an answer to no avail. Nevertheless I continued to monitor this blog, all the while making changes on how I distributed my material to my inner circle. In effort to appease me, this DJ posted a mix I did for Lars's XM radio show + a lot of promotional information about my label. In late March I was again alerted a new unreleased track from my label had appeared in another of this DJ's mixes. I confronted him and asked how did he obtain this track,. He tried to put the blame on the producer saying he passed it to a friend who then shared it with him. I immediately contacted this producer who was angered by the accusation and also confronted this DJ. At this point I was determined to find and seal this leak, I reached out to a friend who had vast knowledge of the internet and asked is there such a software that can intercept AOL Instant Messenger transmission. My friend thought I was simply paranoid, but did reach out to several of his friends who some might consider to be hackers. Within a week he contacted me back and confirmed my initial thoughts he gave me a link to the following hacker site.
It was here I learned about a flaw in AOL Instant Messenger that coupled with another program you could, as I originally thought, intercept the files being shared. I felt it was my civic duty to alert as many as possible to prevent their material from being exploited by this DJ. Since doing so I have been subjected to numerous threats by this DJ via emails and chat rooms. He would ruin my label and his intent to have all my material uploaded and offered as shareware. He also made postings on several message boards & his blog given fictious reasons why not to buy releases from my label and pleas to artist not work in conjunction with me in the future. I again want to sound the alarm to any producers, artist and labels to refrain from using AOL Instant Messenger when sending your unreleased material.
We must stop this audio terrorist and save the muzik to save our scene......
Lastly, I have made it a point not to use the name of the DJ or give his blog address because since this was first reported and as more and more people came forward to concur my findings they too have become subjects of attacks especially on his blog page. He seems to thrive on the attention and notoriety, even if its negative in nature...

On its original form, "Imagination" by Jill Scott (to be found only on the 'Deluxe Edition' of her The Real Thing: Words And Sounds Vol. 3 album) is a beautiful ballad that got reworked by Jersey Soul for thedance floors with a smooth yet deep and fierce 4x4 groove and melodic keys added to the original orchestration to create a soulful interpretation that always stays respectful to the original.
SHENA - "Thinking About Your Love" (Tempogroove/CD Promo)
For us this was the highlight of the "Tempogroove Miami 08 Sampler", gladly it took only a couple of weeks until "Thinking About Your Love" gets a full release. The track is produced by the Audiowhores (Graham Lord and Adam Unsworth) and features a passionate vocal performance by Shena over a relentlessly stompin' groove enriched with warm spheric chords and catchy synths reminiscent of the Yazoo classic "Situation". Check the instrumental for a full take on the synths and chords. Soularis provide the remixes, giving the track an uplifting yet slightly more laidback feeling, with a bouncing groove leading the way for phat keys and Shena's vocals.
REEL PEOPLE featuring DARIEN - "Alibi" (Dennis Ferrer Remix) (Papa Records/CD Promo)
lifted from the marvelous Seven Ways To Wonder, "Alibi" is follows hot on the heels of the massive "Amazing" (that was remixed by Jon Cutler and Tarantulaz). The aforementioned gets reworked by none other than Dennis Ferrer who takes the track straight to the underground with a deeply rumblin' groove that serves as playground for the passionate vocals courtesy of Darien and lush synth stabs that altogether create a mesmerizing yet soulful feel. The instrumental gets deeper and spreads a more intense vibe by stripping the vocals while adding organ-like chords and extra synths.
SOUND FAMIGLIA - "Need Me Want Me" (Panevino Music/CD Promo)
Australia's Sound Famiglia make their debut with "Need Me Want Me", a warm and uplifting vocal production on a classic tip that features melodic chords and sultry female vocals over a funk soaked groove. Panevino supply the remixes (which already got lots of plays during the WMC as it was featured on Purple Music's "Miami Whoomp 2008!" sampler), with their vocal being a wonderful deep house ride featuring mesmerizing keys alongside passionate uplifting female vocals. The dub goes even deeper, creating a hypnotic vibe through the stripped back groove that is topped with captivating synths and chords.

IDM News: DJ CAMACHO NEEDS OUR HELP!!!
|

DJ CAMACHO NEEDS OUR HELP!
From The Underground Network Family....
I (Leslie) write this letter to inform you of a dear friend and family member of ours that has fallen on troubled times in regards to personal health and wellness.
As some of you may already know DJ Camacho has been enduring a lengthy illness. He has been battling diabetes and hypertension for several years. Coincidentally, exactly around this time last year the House Family assisted DJ Camacho with a successful fund raiser that enabled Dave Camacho to pay many outstanding debts.
Since last March of 2007 for Camacho has been uncompromising. He has been in and out of the hospital due to diabetic attacks and various illnesses related to this disease. To add to his illness, in early December Camacho suffered a minor heart attack. Needless to say, stubborn ass Camacho endured this painful experience but at a strenuous price. Many of us saw how devastating the diabetes and this new condition were not only physically debilitating but mentally as well.
Bringing in the New Year Camacho looked to be bouncing back but had a slight bout with pneumonia in the early part of February of 2008. Several days later he had his second minor heart attack in less than 2 months. Well to our dismay, more disheartening news would come Camacho’s way. This past Easter Sunday Camacho’s grieving daughter Tia called me and Urbi with news that her father David Camacho has yet suffered a 3rd minor heart attack in less than 3 months. Importantly, a stent was placed on the right side of his heart to assist the surrounding arteries. To add injury to insult, he has also lost his apartment and needs to salvage his personal items by way of storage. This has to happen immediately so that all is not lost. (studio equipment, records, personal belongings and mementos, etc.) Camacho needs the help of his House Music Family immediately. A few of us are committed to not only supporting him by means of prayer, well wishes, cards, flowers, etc. But also to assist him financially in his time of need.
Let us come together in Camacho’s time of crisis to assist him once again spiritually and financially!! What we are asking for is monetary donations!!
We have pledged an initial donation to jump start the process and will do whatever is necessary to secure his personal belongings and a new living situation.
If you would like more info in regards to Camacho and assisting him you can call Les or Urbi at 973-672-7140.
You can also email us at lesjeudy@comcast.net or
urbi@comcast.net.
If you would like to make a donation, please forward checks or
money orders to the following address to
Leslie J. Jeudy
345 Bloomfield Avenue, Ste 2
Montclair, NJ 07042-3601
Currently, Camacho is recuperating at St. Barnabas Hospital
Medical Center in NJ. He is in fair condition.
If you would like to send him a card, a letter, balloons, flowers, or any other misc gift, please do so to the following address.
C/o David Camacho (RM # 2408)

IDM News: BREAKING NEWS: NEW CASE OF ILLEGAL MUSIC SHARING AROUND... by MICHAEL FOSSATI
|
In the evening of April 21 (CET),Chicago-based DJ/producer Abicah Soul made a couple of bulletin postings on MySpace about a Spanish DJ doin’ illegal music sharing (including a response from the the aforementioned who denied the accusations). On April 22, Consortium Muzik posted the same news on the Southport Weekender forum which started to give the whole affair more dimension with the accused DJ PS again denying it all. The affair given further development, with the latest at one time (for a few hours at least) having links posted to archive files of unreleased Abicah Soul music on his site.
To shed light on this issue, we’ve contacted some of the artists, producers and labels the music of which is played by DJ PS. All of them assured me that they never sent him their music, and some of them even haven't heard of him before. This confirming both what Abicah Soul and Consortium Muzik have made public as to what DJ PS has got his hands on lot of the music he plays through shady channels to say the least. So knowing there’s no way to get unreleased music legally which is appearently not the case as far as DJ PS is concerned, the issue is obviously somewhere else.
Expect further developent soon to be given on this page by Big Cee of Consortium Muzik himself doin’ his debut as correspondant for Indamixworldwide.com...

IDM News: TraxsourceINDAMIX (HOUSE, GARAGE & OTHER ILLICIT GROOVES...) ISSUE # 7
|
Tons of projects under development at the mo’ on the other side of your screens, not only here on IDMW but also by the likes of our partners, with the future displaying of this column being no exception, speakin’ of which we’ll keep you posted in the coming weeks. Welcome to TSIDM # 7 in the series…
Dunno aboutcha peeps, but for those of us based in Central Europe, the least we can say is that Spring takes its time to come, leavin’ us into quite chilly temperatures and the hope for brighter days soon to come. At least, our ears are graced with a whole bunch of up & coming vibes destined to blow your hearts and souls…
Big Cee of Consortium Muzik recently told me how there’s no way to expect bubble gum stuff from his label and the recently release ‘Waiting 2 Xhale EP’ is a brilliant illustration to this, gathering 3 absolute cool gems from 3 talented female singers from Carolyn Victorian to Miss Yvonne. Not to mention that team made of new comer TMJAA and promising production team Monte Carlo Method on the aquatic and heavenly ‘Love High’. A not to be missed affair which should blow the minds of those chillin’ headz such as Phil ‘Cantoma’ Mison, Chris Coco, José Padilla and the likes… And the same comment to apply to Seed Allstarz featuring Liza Zayas’s newie called ‘Moment Of Truth’ on DJ Bruno’s Utopia Boston newly launched imprint. An absolute nugget delivered in two worth the listen # versions, from the metronomic approach on the Seed In The City Mix reminding of the much underrated Vanessa Daou’s Zipless LP released in the mid 90’s, to the smooth jazz/phonky environment as declined on the Utopia Sundays mix. No doubt, a drop of Boston cream like we’ve never experienced before.

Goin’ abstract with the Aak Dub Mix of DJ Aakmael’s ‘Feel It’ which should reach the expectations of those of you into jazzy deep atmospheres over crispy synths effect and smooth African-influenced percussions (Unified Records). On a more acoustic vein, comes the shabada rhythm led ‘Sign Of The Times’ seing Gil Scott-Heron-influenced singer Mustafa Akbar surrounded by an impressive line up of talented musicians. All of’em giving birth to a definitive classic which shoud put the jazz headz down to earth (Poji). Released in 2006 the broken beatish ‘Put It On’ by Atjazz featuring Ernesto is given a new life via remixes with the version of the latest reachin’ absolute heights over a lectro bossa jazzy phonk-influenced groove both deep and mental to be compared to Peven Everett’s early works (Mantis). Bobby Magnifique’s ‘Be My Number One’ bein’ the subject of the same treatment with reliftings courtesy of Rafael Moraes and Azee. The latest getting our preference with his destroying blend of lectro Brazilian FX transforming the affair into a boiling hot dub (Abicah Soul Records). Obviously set for dancefloor devastation is the stompin’ ‘Feel Good Music’ by the likes of DJ Oji & DJ Buzzard with Original Man on the MC Seat on this tribal percussion led banger enlightened with flute and Spanish guitar parts (Poji)
3° Global famous Julius the MadThinker opens the acount for newly launched label RMA based in Bordeaux under his Aid To The Soulless guise with the cool and bumpin’ ‘I’ll Do’ featuring Jon Pierce over a friendly’ phonky groove twisted with a bit a jazzy elements. On a slightly more directive beat comes the jazzyphonkatmospheric ‘Baby With The Brown Eyes’ by Buki Cole & Free Radikal as remixed by Tyrone Francis and Quentin Harris enlightened by an emotive vocal interpretation and a killer synthesized bassline (Latenite). Going further way with the much appealing ‘Feels Like Heaven’ by the likes of Divided Souls embedding an enligthening vocal performance courtesy of Kwame Remy much reminding of those characteristic UK singers such as Babatunde Bayiewu of Lighthouse Family and Don-E (White Lotus Club). Temperature’s definitely rising with Soulf/folk female singer Shae makin’ an interesting debut on the bouncin’ synth led ‘If I Could’ produced by Major (Imbasa). UK label Papa Records has no surpringly the art of keepin’ the fire burning, commissionning Dennis Ferrer on the revamp Of Reel People featuring Darien’s ‘Alibi’ turning it into a serious soulful jazzy affair over a killing lectroified groove. And the pressure looks to reach higher peaks over the bumpin’ ‘Love 4 Love’ by the likes of of Akri Jr & Claudio Di Carlo with Michelle Weeks at the top of her form. Taken from the aptly named ‘Miami Vice (The House Edition) EP’ on Just For Fun, a killer cut which might pretty well become an anthem bein’ given the right exposure at the right time. We shall see…
Leavin’ you the way we’ve welcomed you on this 7th issue of TSIDM with a couple of heavenly jams. The first to be credited to Toronto songstress Sacha (Williamson) delivering her follow up to ‘That’s Enough For Me’ with the Dave Campbell produced ‘I Can’t Pretend’. And what a vibrant interpretation she gives on this smooth appealing piece of soul (Shines) Meanwhile the Kenny Carvajal & Swaylo’s 2006 released ‘You Remind Me’ comes into a brand new dimension as subtly remixed by Abicah Soul & Tony Loreto (Phuture Sole)… See ya in a fortnight! MFSB
TSIDM # 7 TENNERZ
SEED ALLSTARZ featuring LIZA ZAYAS
Fumikate Igarashi and Seed Recordings label head Bradford James delivering the perfect crime on this smokin’ jazzy gem…
DJ OJI & DJ BUZZARD featuring ORIGINAL MAN
Oji & Buzzard goin’ straight to the point on this devastating Afro tribal fused jam…
TMJAA featuring MONTE CARLO METHOD
Emotion’s just around the bent on this not to be missed **** cool groove…
REEL PEOPLE featuring DARIEN
Dennis Ferrer comin’ up with the right amount of lectroified elements to turn this soulful jazzy groove into an unmissable bouncin’ affair!!!
AKRI Jr & CLAUDIO DI CARLOWITCH featuring MICHELLE WEEKS
An expectedly dancefloor anthem bein’ given the right exposure at the right moment…
MUSTAFA AKBAR
Mustafa Akbar respondin’ on a true Gil Scott-Heron’s vein on this killer jazz groove…
BOBBY MAGNIFIQUE
Azee of Brazilian Soul Crew litteraly droppin’ an infectious blend of lectro Brazilian FX…
ATJAZZ featuring ERNESTO
Atjazz goin’ deep and mental on this lectro bossa jazzyphonk rework!
KENNY CARVAJAL featuring SWAYLO
Abicah Soul & Tony Loreto putting this absolute jewel to anotha level…
SACHA
If into Sade and Naked Music’s early classics, this little pearl is for you, Sacha’s interpretation sounding like a piece of heaven…

WMC Aftermath: JEPHTE GUILLAUME featuring WILTRUD WEBER - "Blue And Deep" (Tet Kale/CD Promo)
If you have been in Miami and had the chance to hear this outstanding piece of music, you know why this production made it straight to our Pick of the Week spot. On "Blue And Deep", Jephte Guillaume combines operatic singing courtesy of Wiltrud Weber with his incomparable orchestrations that are full of acoustic and organic arrangements, with a resistless percussion and drum drenched groove leading the way for wonderful melodies and the masterly performed vocals. It may be different and sound unexpected, but with its spirit and the uplifting vibe, this one must be considered an innovative masterpiece. Beside the vocal version, there is also a 'Deepstrumental' that strips most of the vocals to create a more intense feeling. Expect a whole album from the collaboration of Jephte and Wiltrud in the near future.

DOM NAVARRA featuring MONIQUE HENRY - "When You Fall" (Re-Worked) (Gotta Keep Faith/CD Promo)
This beautiful deep and laidback production courtesy of Dom Navarra was released on its original from last year, with GKF givin’ it a new life with this lovely remix package. Steve Paradise's 'Deep In The Sky Remix' is a deep melodic affair bringing the sexy vocals of Monique Henry to full effect, while Franco Martinelli gives the track a groovy vibe on 'Blue Deep Re-Rub'. Next is Da Fuzz who goes deep and funky, followed by Spiritual Blessings' deep spaced-out interpretation. Lastly Georg Neufeld and Schadler team up as the Thedeepchords on a deep soul-tech reworking.
SEED ALLSTARZ featuring LIZA ZAYAS - "Luv Me" (2007 Remix) (Seed Recordings/CD Promo)
Seed Recordings come up with the 2003 released "Luv Me" by the Seed Allstarz (Bradford James, Deknology and Nef Nunez) complete with brand new mixes. The 'Original 2003 Ruff Mix' is a true deep and soulful underground gem that features additional keys by Quentin Harris. DC Productions (Paul Grooves) drops a wonderful jazz-funky interpretation on laidback'n'groovy tip, while Jesse Outlaw reworks the track into a stormin', beautifully instrumentated deep house gem. Lastly there is a downtempo take by Chezphonique perfect four lounging or chilling.
WMC Aftermath: ALTON MILLER - "Together" (Seed Recordings/CD Promo)
Now this is what we call a soulful yet infectious track, with a melody that will stay in your head for a long time to come. Alton Miller's "Together" is built around a percussion enriched, deep funktified groove enriched with lush keys and synths that together with the sensitive male vocals create a captivating feel on the dancefloor. With an alternate 'Club Mix' included that slightly intensifies the vibe while keeping things soulful and deep, this is a delightful piece of house not to be missed.
RON ALLEN - "Reach Out" (Strobe Records/CD Promo)
Ron Allen returns on his own Strobe label with the deeper than deep "Reach Out" which features sexy vocals alongside lush keys and chords over deeply thumpin' beats enlightened with sweet percussion elements, with the overall feel being laidback and deep yet fierce. The 'Strobofunq' mix adds a wicked guitar riff while removing some of the chords to give the track a deeper, more mesmerizing feel. Instrumental versions of both versions conclude the package.
RC GROOVE featuring K. LADAWN - "Too Much 4 Me" (Peppermint Jam/CD Promo)
Unbelievable how time has been flying since we've first reviewed this track two years ago when it was presented as part of the "Peppermint Jam WMC 2006 Sampler". Now finally this Ron Carroll production will get a full release. "Too Much 4 Me" is a fiercely thumpin' production featuring sultry vocals courtesy of K. Ladawn, a hot funky guitar riff, jazzy saxophone and wicked keys in its original form. Sean McCabe's 'Afternoon Sax Dub' somewhat relaxes the vibe and puts the sax centre stage to create a more laidback vibe, while So Phat go all electronic on their take. The Rurals add the fierce 'Lounge Melodious Mix' to the package, a deep soulful take that is all about wonderful melodies. Closing the package is Samir Maslo with his energetic, slightly electrofied mixes that will take the bigger rooms by storm.
CRISPIN J GLOVER featuring JOHNNIE FIORI - "Never Give You Up" (2008 Remix) (Nitelife Records CD Promo)
Maybe you remember Nitelife Records for some of the club hits they had between 1999 and 2004. Now the label returns in a joint venture with Metrogroove Records to offer some of their key releases for download along with brand new mixes. First up is Crispin J Glover's classic "Never Give You Up" which features a beautiful vocal performance by Johnni Fiori with a fresh package of mixes. Both M Sol and the Old School Orchestra deliver soulful reworkings that keep the vibe deep and soulful, with M-Sol going for a classic garage interpretation while Old School Orchestra opted for a jazz-funk soaking groover. Lastly we see Fabio Bacchini taking the track to disco grounds.
SOUL CHILD featuring CEI BEI - "Anything For You" (Citrus Sound Records CD Promo)
Chicago based DJ Fritz presents the sublime "Anything For You" featuring a sensitive vocal by Cei Bei over a smooth'n'deep backing groove that is enriched with phat keys and a lovely jazzy piano, altogether creating an uplifting feeling. Dom Navarra's contribution is on a laidback tip, built around a percussion enriched Latinesque groove. Dobbie J gives the track a classic orchestral touch on his take, with Jonny Montana being next with his deep mellow interpretation full of lovely melodies. DJ Fritz himself adds a remix to the release that powers up the groove while never letting down the soulful feel.
NEO - "Let's Have A Party" (TriCircle Deep/CD Promo)
Hot on the heels of the "Smile" / "A Night In Marseille" EP on TriCircle Soul comes Neo's newbie on TriCircle Deep titled "Let's Have A Party". It's a deep, old fashioned funky house gem getting remixed by the likes of Demon, Soulmonkey, Nicolas Valle and DJinxx who all come up with their own interpretation that melt soulful with funky and deep vibes, each one of the remixes with its own focus and emphasis resulting in a lovely variety of versions to choose from.
FABIO TOSTI & LOGICALGROOVE featuring SAVIO VURCHIO - "Take Me Down" (Music Plan/CD Promo)
Fabio Tosti and Logicalgroove team up with singer Savio Vurchio on the old school flavored "Take Me Down", a feel good production based on a smooth funk flavored backing enriched with melodic chords, jazzy piano and saxophone alongside Vurchio's passionate vocals. The 'Drum Club Mix' strengthens the drums and deepens the groove to give the track a modern sound, while the 'All Pako Sax Mix' puts the wonderful sax play by Pako Baldassarre centre stage. Lastly there is the 'Tunnel Mix' that takes the track to the underground with stompin' beats leading the way for the chords and keys.
STAN COURTOIS featuring MARCYA - "Feel The Rhythm And Dance" (TriCircle/CD Promo)
"Feel The Rhythm And Dance" by French DJ/producer Stan Courtois is a funky gem on a classic tip full of lovely live percussion and sexy vocals by Marcya taken to the next level by DJ Circle who is firing the track up for some serious yet smooth disco flavored, jazzed-up house vibes. C&M go one step further with their peak time orientated disco-funk flavored take, while Steve Austin's contribution is the choice for the bigger rooms. Jr. Rex goes all funky while adding an electronic touch to his remix, followed by Tom da Prato's laidback reworking and the downtempo chill version courtesy of Felly.
PHIL ASHER presents PHLASH & FRIENDS - "Look At What We've Done"/"Minotour" (Archive/CD Promo)
Phil Asher presents the follow up to the highly acclaimed "Political '06" / "Revolution" which is another slammin' two track release. "Look At What We've Done" features vocals Fyza Saleh with a sultry performance over a deep yet laidback and smooth funk soaking groove that is at the slower end of things (we had to pitch it up quite a bit for our mixshow), with an electric violin, warm chords and lovely guitar creating a beautiful melodic feeling. In contrast, "Minotour" is a fierce uptempo track built a round a relentless tribal groove that melts funky elements with techno, resulting in a peak time favorite.
ALICIA KEYS - "Like You'll Never See Me Again" (Matthias Heilbronn Remixes) ( CD-R)
J Records have decided not to release any dance mixes on Alicia Keys' "Like You'll Never See Me Again" single (at least in the US), so it is uncertain that these mixes by Matthias 'Matty' Heilbronn will ever see the light of the day. Two mixes are available, with the 'Soulflower Mix' being a wonderfully orchestrated organic affair that is getting slightly tougher towards the end, while the 'PDP Mix' is all about lush synths and chords over a fiercely thumpin' groove. It would be a shame though if these mixes were not given a proper release!!!

V/A: "Waiting 2 Xhale EP" (Consortium Muzik Records CD Promo)
This lovely EP kicks off with "U Don't Know" courtesy of songstress Carolyn Victorian, with Alan Smithee in BlueBlackness on production and mixing duties. "U don't know" is a laidback affair built a round a deep and mellow groove, with Victorian providing a sensitive vocal that is accompanied by melodic keys. "Confusion" by Miss Yvonne gets the remix treatment by Jason B who reworks the track into a deeply groovin' yet smooth affair featuring lush chords and a great organ. Lastly there is "Love High" by Tmjaa featuring Monte Carlo Method, a summery track featuring sultry vocals over a deeply rumblin' beat enriched with spheric chords, bird chirping and sounds of the sea.
V/A: "WMC 2003 Promo" (MiCasa/CD Promo)
Slammin' three track sampler by the Canada based MiCasa Records. "X-girlfriend" by Lester McLean is wonderful laidback production featuring a passionate R&B styled vocal performance alongside a jazzy sax and great keys and chords over a deep yet smoothly groovin' beat. Johan Greaves goes deep and laidback on the percussion enriched "Hold On" that features sweet'n'sexy male vocals together with wicked keys. "Take 2" by The Wisemen goes even deeper and keeps the vibe laidback, with some sultry male vocals being accompanied by warm chords and jazzy keys.
V/A: "The Boy Wonder Remixes - WMC 2008 Promo" (MiCasa Records CD Promo)
Here we've got a remix promo sampler of work done by Robin 'The Boy Wonder Eccleston (from The Wisemen). First he takes on two songs from Kayte Burgess' Checked Baggage album. Her ballad, "Got What I Want," gets a soulful yet stormin' makeover for the soulful house floors with a groovy beat and melodic keys, while the acoustic R&B song "Don't Throw It Away" gets reworked into an electrofied yet soulful deeply rumblin' house track. Fritz Helder's Red Coat" is nothing for the fans of soulful house as this is on the harder side of things. Lastly there is the magnificent 'Deep Syncopated Mix' of Johan Greaves "Hold On" that is deep and hypnotic, with some deeply thumpin' beats leading the way for the vocals and keys.
MATT HUGHES - "WMC '08 Promo" (SoulDeep/CD-R)
Matt Hughes is an up and coming producer from the UK who presented this wonderful sampler in Miami this year. "Evolving" is a deep and groovy track featuring melodic keys alongside side cool spoken words, altogether creating a captivating feel. His interpretation of Ledesi's "Good Lovin'" (from the 2003 released Soul Singer album) is a deep and soulful affair that keeps the jazz/funk flavors of the original alive, while Osunlade's deep and laidback "Moonlight" gets fired up without losing the soulful overall feeling. "Sessions C" features a wicked organ ride and jazzy keys over a deeply rumblin' groove, while "Hope Over Fear" is deep and jazzy featuring male spoken words on top. "Outside" is a powerful funked-up affair that sounds raw and rough, with "What A Day" turning things back to deeper vibes with thumpin' beats, spoken words, jazzy flute and laminar chords. Lastly there is Matt Hughes take on "Brave Bird" by Amel Larrieux which takes this beautiful laidback song (from her 2004 released Brave Bird album) to the soulful dancefloors with a mellow house groove serving as playground for the original orchestration.
V/A: "Miami 2008 Sampler" (Thaisoul/CD Promo)
It has been a year since we last heard from Jask's Thaisoul Records, but now they return in a big way with this hotter than hot three track sampler. First up is "The Latin Dream", a laidback Latin house track featuring sexy spoken words by Shirley Marte alongside a jazzy trumpet and lovely keys over a smoothly stormin' groove. Next is "Tears In The Rain", a funkily groovin' production that features lovely melodies created by sweet chords and keys. The last track featured on this sampler is "Set Me Free" which features Kolai on flute and strings and Shirley Marte with another sexy spoken word performance over a deeply groovin' beat. The package includes various instrumentals, beats and spokenapella versions for your mixing pleasure. The perfect soundtrack for the coming Summer.
DAWN TALLMAN - "Try Now" (Soul 45 Records/CD Promo)
"Try Now" features the unmistakable voice of Dawn Tallman over a DJ Nermin produced musical backing that is smooth yet fierce, built around a percussion enriched funk soaking groove, with melodic keys, a jazzy piano and lovely guitar accompanying Tallman's sensitive vocals. Patrick Bo takes the song to a deeper but still funky level with thumpin' beats leading the way for the vocals and synths. The alternate edit of Bo's mix is slightly deeper yet a tad less funky.
V/A: "Mark Mendoza Re-Edits & Mashups" (CD-R)
Seven re-edits and mashups can be found on this CD, with the Afro house track "Afrik" by Kevin Reynolds featuring some hot vocal chants over a relentless beat. Next is "Slang Shouter" that melts the new wave classic ""Slang Teacher" by (Wide Boy Awake) with distinctive Depeche Mode sounds ("Shout"). "My Sound Joy" cleverly combines the Reese & Santonio classic "The Sound" with the beats from Quentin Harris' smash hit "My Joy". Then comes a lovely re-edit of DJ Oji's "Esteban", followed by the favorite of many DJ's: "Jesus Creates Sound" by Marlon D that is spiced with many great samples such as Ofra Haza or "Pump Up The Volume" to only name two. "Check Out Mary" is all about Grand High Priest's "Mary Don't Weep" fused with Cevin Fisher's "Check This Out". Lastly there is another mashup composed of "Rock To The Beat" by Reese with "The Sun Can't Compare" by Larry Heard (which is based on the ToT remix of later track).
ERIC LEVAN - "WMC 2008 Sampler" (Soul Elevation Music/CD-R)
Here we have another truly hot sampler showcasing the creative work of DJ/producer Eric Levan. "Subway Sound 2008" combines that notorious synth loop from the Sueno Latino classic with an old school beat, acidic tones and a wicked vocal sample. "2008 ADMX" gets deep and keeps things on an old school tip, with excerpts from classic political speeches sampled over a relentless beat (sounds reminiscent to "Work It To The Bone" by LNR to us) enriched with lovely synths. Last but not least we get "Work It '06" that shamelessly samples one of those resistless tribal grooves Masters At Work have invented in their career and spices it up with a hot "Work It" vocal sample.
Zone 7 Entertainment "WMC 2008 Sampler" (Zone 7 Entertainment Promo CD)
Zone 7 Entertainment (founded by their front man St. Lawrence back in 1988) present a wonderful sampler for an upcoming remix project to be released soon. "Early Evening" by Internal Society (St. Lawrence used this artist name for his 2001 release on West End Records) features Nu Soul Giants & Big U and can't deny the influences from the Jaydee classic "Plastic Dreams" on the beat and drumz, with the cool spoken words and lush keys creating a deep and laidback yet mesmerizing feel on the 'Plas T-CatS Wind & Rain Remix'. The 'Jazz & Flow Mix' drops the vocals and beats for a mellow vibe perfect to chill, while the 'Plas-T CatS Edit' just drops the vocals and extends the track for a hypnotic dancefloor experience. The second featured track is "Revisit The Zone" by Internal Society in the 'Warrior Zone ReEdit' (we guess this is an updated version of their 2001 released "Feelin' The Zone") being on a deep underground tip featuring wicked keys and chords over a smooth groove.
V/A: "WMC 2008 Deep and Funky Sampler" (Tarantic Records/CD Promo)
It's great to see that Tarantic Records return to action with this slammin' sampler of forthcoming material to watch out for. Ivan I & Jason Howell present "Funky Moves" delivered here in three versions. Their 'Original Mix' is a deeply thumpin' funk soaking affair that is creating a captivating feel. The 'JasWho? Remix' intensifies the funky flavors and turns the track into a groovier direction, while Amit Shoham goes for a gritty attack on his take. "Name That Drug" by Ben Tom & Amit Shoham in the 'Homero Espinosa & Allen Craig Remix' is a deep and slightly electronic affair with a mesmerizing feel created by catchy synths. Amit Shoham goes all deep and techy on his remix of Mandala's "Turborcharged", while Andy Sant's "Inbetween Dreams" is on a deep and laidback tip with a lovely funky edge to it, featuring sexy female vocals on top.
ALEX FINKIN & REVEREND P - "WMC 2008 Sampler" (Animal House/CD Promo)
France-based Alex Finkin & Reverend P are going from strength to strength with their recent smash "Fight For Love" and the upcoming "Lion In A Cage" on Planet La Funk (see your Miami Reviews Part 1 for details). Beside those two productions, there is more fresh music from these two to be discovered on this sampler. "Can't Get Enough" features Jocelyn Mathieu with a passionate vocal over a funkily groovin' backdrop that is enriched with a beautiful piano, while on "Gone Away" she sees herself accompanied by melodic chords, all nicely arranged over a deep'n'smooth groove. "War House" is a deep hypnotic track built around thumpin' beats and mesmerizing synths that is guaranteed to set the floor on fire. "The Power" is an uplifting affair featuring a gospel vocal by Michelle Weeks over a stormin' groove enriched with a jazzy piano and phat organ. The dub gets deeper and adds some additional electrofied synths.
V/A "WMC 2008 Sampler" (Bounce Muzik Records CD Promo)
This WMC sampler features the recently reviewed "Beautiful Love" by Gabriel Horizon featuring DeShun as well as last year’s "Lift Me Higher" by Tony Powell featuring Dejah and "Good Vibes" by Gabriel Horizon & Jesse Powell. "Vibra Azul" is a laidback Latin flavored track by Aaron Arce that features a lovely vibraphone together with classic strings and lovely keys over a smooth percussion enriched groove. "Da One" by Gabriel Horizon & DJ La Rok is a heavily stompin' funky house extravaganza with some clever effects and disco flavors used to create a frenzy on the dancefloor. Lastly we've got "Muzik" by Gabriel Horizon, a fiercely stormin' disco/funk flavoured track for those peak time moments.
ROCCO - "Da man" (Map Dance/CD Promo)
Rocco presents a deep and moody track based around smoothly thumpin' beats that are enriched with wicked spoken words and some spaced-out synths and laminar chords giving the track an electronic feel. Claude Monnet is responsible for the remix, taking the track deeper and smoothing the vibe down a bit, with the chords and synths used creating a more melodic feel compared to the original.
BANGANA featuring CLARISSE MUVEMBA - "Dead End" (HEYA Hifi/CD Promo)
With "Dead End", Bangana and HEYA Hifi are guaranteed to continue their success story with the dancefloors with this deep and slightly techy cut that features a sultry vocal performance by Clarisse Muvemba alongside mesmerizing synths and chords and infectious percussion over a smooth yet deeply stormin' groove creates an irresistible feeling. D'Julz delvers a remix that gives the track a more minimal yet more intense and hypnotizing vibe.
FILTA FREQZ - "WMC 2008 Sampler" (CD-R)
Filta Freqz (Simon Cortez and Marco Manrique) have been a regular guests on Spirit of House over the last year or so. Thanks to the resistless funky house grooves they unleash with each and every of their tracks. At this year’s WMC, they came up with a phat eleven track sampler that includes tracks we've already reviewed in the past as well as new material such as "Pressure" which uses the main vocal hook from the Sounds Of Blackness classic "The Pressure" over a deeply groovin'' funk soaking groove, or the deeply rumblin' "Soul Heaven" oozing with lovely harmonies and the funk enriched groove. Simply put, each and every track on this sampler has got what it takes to rock the dancefloors with the feel good funky and disco vibes.
HALO & MASCARO - "Travel EP" / HALDO - "Miami 2008 Unreleased Tracks" (Proceed Records/CD Promo)
As every year, our man Haldo drops some hot tunes right in time for Miami. Gladly his hard work from the past years paid off and his great music found home on various labels in recent months, but Haldo also continues to release on his own Proceed label as well. The "Travel EP" with partner Mascaro features four tracks, with "Together" being a lovely deep house track featuring wicked synths and chords, while the tribalish "Floor" goes electro on the keys, with a wicked organ added for your pleasure. "Miles Away" is deep and groovy, with the funky ingredients creating an uplifting feel. Lastly there is the laidback "Save The Last Time" featuring wonderful jazzy piano and vibes together with great chords. Then there is the "Miami 2008 Unreleased Tracks" sampler kicking off with "See U In The Sun", a laidback track featuring melodic chords alongside electrofide keys. Next is the deep "Be Back" featuring a sweet vocal by Loryn alongside lovely keys and organ over a fierce yet smooth groove. "Come Into My Life" featuring Erika Scherlin on vocals is included in two versions: the 'Haldo Mix' is a melodic laidback affair, while the 'Deepred Mix' is a deeper take perfect for the bigger rooms. Lastly there is the Latinesque jazz/house track "I Believe" that will bring a smile on every dancer’s face. Thanks to its uplifting vibe.

IDM News: WE ALL NEED TO PRAY FOR K.T. BROOKS by CHRIS PEREZ
|
WE All NEED TO PRAY FOR K.T.BROOKS... (source: deephousepage.com)
I just got a phone call from Jovonn & Dennis Ferrer about KT being admitted in the hospital. He has pneumonia & is in really bad shape. I can't describe how terrible I feel right now so I won't. What I can say about K.T. is that he is one of the most talented singer/songwriters I've ever had the pleasure & honor of working with. Through the many years that I, Dennis, Jovonn & others have worked with him, K.T. has always delivered timeless songs that should resonate for years to come. I think everyone who knows him very well would agree with me on this. He is one of the kindest, most grateful & loving human beings you'll ever know. I would ask all of youl to play your favorite K.T. Brooks track tonight & pray for Karlon because he is much too young to leave this world. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & with you Karlon! May God bless you with a full recovery.
Peace, Chris Perez

The 'Keyapalla' part of last year’s promo CD is no longer included. IDM News: HOUSE, WHICH HOUSE?
|
HOUSE, WHICH HOUSE???
The WMC is just 5 days away with the first comments flourishing as to how and what it was in addition to what SpiritOfHouse.com head Michael Fossati brought us back then on a daily basis. And the ironical thing is that despite an undeniable growing criticism expressed as time goes, the same ol’ sh** seems like more or less happenin’ all over again from a year to another…
The reactions as to what the WMC is not anymore what it used to be seem nowadays like a never ending story. From the one time rumours of its relocation (Las Vegas, Hawai or wherever) to its fragmentation with a handful of record industry heads who expressed for some time their will to create an event which would be far more focused. But one’s gotta have a look a it: nuttin’ changes if not that we more and more hardly see the use of the WMC for our community from a year to another…
Not surprising though in reference to that famous expression according to which too many cooks spoil the broth. And that’s pretty much what occured with the promoters of the Conf’ opening their arms to reputedly mainstream acts and events on their will to broaden their audience. With, as a direct consequence the progressive killing of both its original spirit and atmosphere, not to mention its initial meaning which was to focus on upcoming artists, DJ’s, producers hailing from the said house scene… But which house are we da f*** talkin’ about nowadays??? The one which would revolutionize the approach of the reputedly modern production while exploring new paths? Or the one out of which a whole bunch of opportunists have made themselves a name along those last years although delivering a pale copy/rendition of it…
I imagine how such comments may seem sort of hard to some of you but let’s not forget about the absolute necessity of the labels (trade names, call them whatever you want) supposed to give us – the consumers – a precise idea as to what to expect when comin’ to acquire a good. Check out the wines for instance and you’ll realize how a Bordeaux is not a Bourgogne with the latest not being a Champagne. Then get a bit further and you’ll see how a ‘Millésime’ is not a ‘Cru Bourgeois’ itself not being a table wine and the list goes on. This, at the end of the day, makin’ all its specificity and therefore its interest and I bloody hell don’t see how this could’nt become the case in regards to the music we love… MFSB
