Goods which have ended up being dematerialized for a handful of peanuts – if not for nothing – given to their creators, being talentuous or not. A formatting process which doesn’t leave anymore space to diversity. A creation which, whatever its vocation is (commercial or said underground), seems like making rounds & rounds… All on all, a situation which is in no way new, ultimate rebound of the history, the proper of which – should we like to remember – is to be made of either illuminating and obscure periods…
While not only being given the capacity to acquire almost everything from a simple click, but also thinking of what we’ll be able to afford the next day right after the operation is done, many are those of us who, in the mean time, have forgotten this essential notion consisting of the time needed to elaborate the object of our desires. As if, here as well, a simple click was needed to give it life. A feeling which, however tending to confirm itself judging by the way the consumption society gets the food to regenerate iteself while commercializing stuff with a more and more limited duration of life, shows how much it has reached its limits as far as artistic creation is concerned, leading to today’s situation. In other words, an overdose of infos and in the meantime sollicitations which are far from being all worth a listen. Although our elders might say how it was about the same in the 60’s/70’s period with an already plethoric production at the time, let’s not forget how volume has never been synonymous with quality, especially knowing that today’s cadets are less and less given time to show their aptitudes. And how those very few at the commands who could be tempted or would like encouraging to do so ain’t necessarily got the power anymore and, even more, the resources…
Famous book Toujours plus (understand Always More) by French editorialist Alain De Closets shows here as well how relevant it is, as too many things have ended up killing THE thing, either by blacking it out if not when having banalised it. In addiction to this, let’s not forget the immediate estimation process and, as a direct consequence, the dirty trick being played consisting of not allowing an ever growing amount of us to make the distinction between the good and the crap, due to the current lack of necessary references when not of a values scales. Is it to say that there’s nothing good at the moment ? This is not the point, as it ain’t neither talking about that period comprised between 1983/4 and 1986/7, speaking of which the least we can say is that it’s far from having been the most glorious as far as quality material is concerned. This said, maybe shouldn’t we forget that a given period can be, for many reasons, more or less prolific and have in mind the fact that the one we’re currenly living may mark the end of a cycle. MFSB
