THIS IS NOW, THAT WAS THEN…
IDM MEMORIES (IDM Issue#
01 – It's our anniversary)
This is now, that was then… March with the
release of our very first newsletter via internet. One year has already gone
seing us what we are today collecting an ever growing enthusiastic feedback all
over the world. For that, thank you. This is now, that was then… when some 250
people of you got In Da Mix on their screens the minute after (this, with a bit
of extra illustrations today)…
It's not a problem that I
can't fix, coz' I can do it…
IN DA MIX
IN DA MIX (HOUSE, GARAGE & OTHER ILLICIT GROOVES)
Just landed in Paris a few hours ago. Useless to say I feel a bit jetlagged
after such a hot (and wet) week in Miami. My first thoughts go to my brothers
who were not able to do it this year for personal reasons.
Thinking in particular about Kerri Chandler who's lost his grandma and Ron Trent
because of his young daughter (wishing she'll recover asap). I would also like
to thank the people who have shown me their love and trust : King Street
(my family in NY), Sammy Figueroa who came and added his percussions on
my set for the afrorementioned label. Jeff Craven and the Large posse
who made me a part of their nite with Roy Davis Jr, Dennis Ferrer,
Julius Papp and the 3 °. Randy Muller for letting me
in at the MAW party. And last but not least, all of those in the crowd who've
been encouraging me with their enthusiastic reactions during and after my
spinning activities.
Although I haven't had the time
so far to listen to the big amount of newies that some of you have given to me,
there are already some stuff that come directly to my mind as great reminders of
this 2003 Conf. I'm thinking in no partiucular order about DJ Oji with
"I'm Feelin' You" from a stunning album to be released shortly. A very moody
track with a flute line and a vocal riff that stands to me already like an
anthem that Roy Davis Jr played during his set (@ Get Large) That one
being Infinity featuring Malik "Back 2 Chicago" to be released later in
autumn 2003 on King Street. A killer song – Jaque's "Keys Of Life" - due
to be released shortly on Jellybean that Marlon D produced & played at
The Riande Hotel. A stunning remix of Esperanza featuring Carolyn Punter's
"Saved"' by Mike 'Agent X' Clarke on canadian label Gotsoul. Also got the
chance to check out Malik Alston's new material including his "Caterpillar
EP" that confirms him as one of the true Detroit's new hopes two years after an
impressive appearance at DEMF. On a slightly more festive mood with a drop of
old school spirit, also checked out "It's All Over" by Chicagoan Rafael 'Légo'
Valdez (not bad at all neither) on Poontin Muzik. Finishing this short brief
with a special mention to France's Pascal & Mr Day with a nu album soon
to come on Rotax including a wickeeeed remix of Philly don King Britt.
More to come soon on my In
Da Mix column for french mag Coda and on a full report to be
printed in Only For DJ's (both in may).
Peace everybody,
MFSB
