Get ready for some
serious dope right here as it's not only one but twop people that we're having
there doing da mix + they're not only DJ's but also producers and musicans who
gave birth to L.A. nine-piece jazz/funk band, The Soulplanet Orchestra. We
welcome here our very first US spinners…
It all started in the living room. A couple of friends
listening to good house music, having a couple of drinks and relaxing. Soon,
there were 15 people bouncing their heads and the neighbors downstairs, banging
on the ceiling, hoped that their efforts would be rewarded by silence.
Unfortunately for them, the 1940's Los Feliz apartment with thin hardwood floors
could not contain the eclectic sounds resonating through the building. The
gathering had a specific purpose. SOULPLANET RECORDINGS had been conceived and
the party would last all night long.
K.C. Santana's
home studio had long experienced the soulful sounds of some of L.A.'s top
musicians. He has been producing tracks in the styles of salsa, hip hop, R&B,
Latin pop and electronica over the span of several years and because of his
meticulous productions and studio ethic has developed a personal relationship
with players that not only enjoy collaborating but trust his unique instincts
for flavor and arrangement. K.C. has always believed that freedom of expression
is key to any successful recording session, no matter what genre. His early
beginnings in music included Djing at a very young age and after meeting Jack
Monforte his affinity to dance music was resurrected. As a result of similar
experiences and goals, a partnership was born.
Jack Monforte
a veteran underground nightclub Dj had recently rediscovered his life-long
passion of house music. A recent engineering graduate of Los Angeles Recording
Workshop, Jack was on a path to incorporate his finely tuned ear and impeccable
arranging skills. While spinning at a downtown nightclub he crossed paths with
K.C. After a couple of "Jack & Cokes" and some deep dialog, a strong friendship
formed and became the foundation of their business relationship. Fifteen years
of spinning different genres as well as being a very successful street promoter
had earned Jack a very loyal following and the respect of his peers. Jack's
no-nonsense attitude towards music gave him close friendships with the best Djs
from Los Angeles and allowed him to coordinate legendary dance events in the
city. The combination of all these factors led to the birth of Soulplanet:
Sessions; an evening where Djs and musicians come together to record and capture
unique musical moments.
After a series of
live jam sessions that intermixed seasoned jazz musicians with underground dance
sub-culture, K.C. Santana, Jack Monforte and other partner
Alfredo Rubalcava formed The Soulplanet Jazz Ensemble. Collectively,
they all strive to merge the artistry of live improvisation and Afro-Latin dance
grooves. With studios in the eccentric district of Silver Lake, Ca, SOULPLANET
RECORDINGS sets out to reflect the tempo of life and change the world through
music…
