Can You See The Light
(White) |
If ever can speak of a legend as far as a house choon is concerned, then it definitely applies to this one. 12 years have gone since its first appearence with the question remaining unanswered in regards to the conditions of its initial release. I remember meeting its author – Walter L. Robinson – back then who told me how suprised he was when incidentally comin’ to hear it for the very first time with not a single info as to who put it out and therefore no deal. I then would meet the man who remixed it – Sandy Rivera of K.O.T. – with no more explanations from him apart from the fact that this white label – or should I rather say this bootleg – has been released by some mysterious hip-hop production company based in B’Klyn, with not a single dollar given to him nor to Robinson. And the most incredible thing to happen later on with the official license of this song on the Body & Soul comp with both its author and remixer naturally being given 50% of the fees… Incredible for sure but not surprising artistically speakin’ judging by the quality of both the post-production work with Rivera reachin’ one of his absolute peaks and the staggering interpretation courtesy of that impressive line-up of… Voices (Dawn Tallman, the late Sabrynaah Pope, Michelle Weeks, Ceybil Jeffries, Damon Hortan and Jamal Alicia) over a bouncing groove… A message which remains more than ever up to date that I’d like to dedicate to those of our brothers & sisters currently in pray of doubt and sufferings, beginning with long time friend DJ Camacho and as a tribute in loving memory of K.T. Brooks who has recently passed away. MFSB
