3 Winans Brothers / The Clark Sisters – Dance

Single Of The Week: 3 Winans Brothers feat. The Clark Sisters – Dance (Louie Vega Latin Soul Version) (Vega Records)

West End Records label head Mel Cheren used to say that “Disco was nothing but a club-oriented version of Soul Music”. And this is exactly what to expect on this rework by the likes of Louie Vega. A rework that keeps the essence of this uplfting R&B groove alive. Meanwhile just adding what it takes to transform it into an infectious invitation to dance on the floor…

Taken from an upcoming album – ‘Louie Vega Starring XVIII…’ – due for release this Summer, one can definitely guess how this is goin’ to be an ambitious project. A package in the footsteps of these memorable joints which have seen Vega collaborating with luminaries such as James Ingram, BeBe Winans, and Patti Austin to name but a few…

On a beat ‘alla’ ChiChi Peralta‘s ‘Un Dia Mas‘. With Josh Milan on B-3 and Wurlitzer and Axel Tosca on additional key. At times reminding of Santana‘s keyboard part on their atmospheric ‘Singing Winds, Crying Beasts‘ (the opening cut from their 1970 released ‘Abraxas’) album.
“You make me smile, you make me laugh, you make me dance…” I’ve just hardly heard anything more appealing than this. Positively irresistible! Don’t you think?

The Winans are a family of Gospel artists hailing from Detroit, MI. They released countless albums under various guises depending on their line-ups, as as solo artists. From The Winans to BeBe & CeCe Winans, Winans Phase 2 and The 3 Winans Brothers among others.

The latter, formed by Marvin, BeBe and Carvin, delivered their first album – ‘Foreign Land’ – by the end of Sept. 2014. Louie Vega licensing ‘Dance’ on his Vega Records label in 2015. Then ‘I Choose You’ in 2016.

BeBe (Benjamin) Winans has put out several albums. With CeCe first, then as a solo artist. He signed with Atlantic and delivered his self-titled solo debut in 1997. An album that features the memorable ‘Thank You’ which Louie Vega and Kenny Dope remixed at the time. The next album – ‘Love & Freedom’ – followed 3 years after on Motown . It featured production work by the likes of Warryn Campbell and Brian McKnight. Not to mention… Masters At< Work to name a few.

Marvin Lawrence Winans started singing in the 70’s with his brothers Ronald, Carvin and Michael as The Testimonial Singers. In 1975? the groupchanged their name to The Winans.
Their musical careers spanned both the 80s and 90’s. Discovered by Andrae Crouch, they released their first album – ‘Introducing The Winans’ – in 1981. An organist and pianist, Marvin also wrote songs, and produced for the group as for solo projects from family members.

Marvin has focused on work as the pastor of Perfecting Church in Detroit. He eventually continues to record albums with the church’s choir, as Marvin Winans & The Perfected Praise Choir.

Carvin who was a member of The Winans, was a part of a 2002 sold out world tour with the family. They performed in front of millions of fans, closing out in Detroit at the Fox Theatre. In October 2007 he was inducted in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN along with his brothers.

On June 18, 2008, he received the President’s Merit Award from the Recording Academy in recognition of his extraordinary gifts. Both as a passionate singer, performer, expressive communicator, and pioneer of contemporary Gospel music. He has 5 Grammy’s and 3 Gold Records, several NAACP Awards and Soul Train Awards after 30 years in the business. He’s been collaborating with countless luminaries. From Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones and Whitney Houston. Not to mention Brian McKnight, Michael McDonald and Anita Baker among others.
He keeps on writing songs and has released a new album with Marvin and BeBe as the 3 Winans Brothers back in 2014.

Carvin now experiences solo activities. This with the blowin’ ‘Once In A Lifetime’. The first offshot from his upconin’ album – ‘In The Softest Way’ – due to hit the streets by the beginning of 2019. When talkin’ about this effort, he says… “I am truly humbled and honored that for my first solo album God blessed me to work with some of the most talented and gifted people on the planet… Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Kenny G, Tommy Sims, Carlos Battey and last but not least, my wife Chérie Winans. Just to name a few! I pray my fans enjoy listening to this album as much as I enjoyed making it!”
