Tennerz: Blue Six – Anhedonia (Naked Music)
Back in its early days in the second half of the 90’s, Jay Denes‘s Naked Music label forged itself a strong identity visually speakin’. Eventually influencing other imprints such as DJ Spen‘s Quantize Recordings. But also musically of couse. This while being synonymous with intimate lyrics over lush harmonies. Thus illustrating an undeniable form of hedonism.
The theme of the song itself says a lot. Most likely sounding like one of the signs of the current times we’re living. With so many people in the inability to experience pleasure from activities reputedly enjoyable. In other words, what responds to the definition of “Anhedonia” such as its prefix suggest it (* Wikipedia)
Is this Deep House, is this Blue-Eyed Soul? Is this Lounge Rock with its accents somehow reminding of Simple Minds if not Roxy Music at times? Who cares at the end as it could be a blend of everything. This being nothing but the proper of what music’s supposed to be. And, in the meantime, makin’ real talents like Denes and singer Aya so rare these days.
