First Listen: Coflo feat. Lady C – Reasons (Doug Gomez Merecumbe Soul Remix) (Merecumbe Recordings)
What I like about Doug Gomez‘s Merecumbe Recordings label is that fact that it’s an absolute goldmine. With ‘Reasons’ adding itself to an already impressive list of worth the check pieces of music.
On the heels of ‘What Goes Around’ in Autumn 2016 then ‘Feels Like’ in September 2017, Coflo and singer Caroline Fraser aka Lady C come up for an encore. This time with the vibrant ‘Reasons’ as remixed by label head Doug Gomez. The latter slightly retouching its rhythmic flow while flirting with Afro Latin vibes. But also enhancing its deepness with stellar keys.
As many reasons to give it a listen, then eventually let us know about your feelings. With Lady C establishing herself as a performer to definitely count with from a release to another. Somehow bringin’ back to the souvenir of EBTG‘s Tracey Thorn at times.

– Born and raised in the East Bay Area of California Coflo considers himself a “Househead” before anything else. Growing up in the Bay Area club culture as a dancer, Coflo‘s obsession with music drove him to the explore the inner-workings of sound, musical composition and the art of a club DJ. Meanwhile wanting to understand more eventually drove him to study music in basic theory, production, instrumentation, etc…
In an effort to further his knowledge in dance through music, Coflo began to fall in love with the art of music production. Through friendship with local producer Stephen Rigmaiden, he was shown some of Rigmaiden‘s trade secrets of House Music production. From then on, Coflo has grown in both dance and music production. Thus adding his voice to the ones of local producers such as David Harness and Carlos Mena among others…
Known as one of America’s best “House dancers” of a new generation, Coflo now has published remixes and original productions on labels such as King Street, Ocha Records and MoBlack. He has founded a multi-genre music label for his artistry crew – The Soulshifters – called Catch The Ghost Records. And he has also found the time to deliver his debut-album – ‘O Berimbau’ – back in 2017 on Boddhi Satva’s Ofeering Recordings label. Thus showing an obvious penchant for Latin vibes, beginning with the Brazilian folklore.
– Hailing from the Big Apple, Doug Gomez started his career back in 1987. As a true New Yorker of Latin decent, his love for drums and sophisticated melodies led him to be embrace the path of DJing and production. He notoriously worked for Waako Records from 1994 to 2005 as A&R/promotions director. A label that had artists such as K.O.T., Lenny Fontana, Kenny Carpenter, Mood II Swing and Louie ‘Balo’ Guzman to name a few.
In 2007, he teamed up with a friend to create music together under the alias DRRTYHAZE. A venture which got them signed to labels like Gomma, TIRK, and Nang amongst others.
7 years later, in 2014, the calling to move to Costa Rica where he now resides came as an evidence for his creative growth. Doug Gomez is now slowly but surely spreading his sound in the region as well as the world.
Running his own label – Merecumbe Recordings – we welcomed him since on a regular base on this shores. With stellar gems such as ‘Meta Morpho Sis’ and ‘Coros en la Calle’ featuring Toto Berriel. But also ‘Tribes Of The Jaguar’. Not to mention his remix of N’Dinga Gaba, Jaidene Veda feat. Josh Milan‘s ‘Beautiful’. And, more recently, his rework of Those Boys‘ ‘Titled Love’. This in addition to his collab with South African singer Unqle Chriz on the soothing ‘My Everything’.
The final part of 2018 seeing him delivering a stellar reconstruction of Coflo feat. Lady C‘s ‘Reasons’…
