Creedence Clearwater Revival – Proud Mary (Fantasy)

Classics: Creedence Clearwater Revival – Proud Mary (Fantasy)

“If you come down to the river, bet you gonna find some people who live. You don’t have to worry cause you have no money.People on the river are happy to give. Big wheel keep on turnin’, Proud Mary keep on burnin’. Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the river. Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the river…”

At first sight, some of you might wonder about the presence of Creedence Clearwater Revival – in other words, a Rock band! – on these shores. But, as usual, nothing comes as a coincidence.
As a matter of fact, you might pretty well have heard ‘Proud Mary’ sung by someone else. Like Solomon Burke for instance, unless by Tina Turner. But its original version came courtesy of CCR. People who, although hailing from San Francisco, CA, have massively incorporated elements of Blues in their music which contributed havin’ it rated as Swamp Rock. As finely illustrated by their classic ‘Born On The Bayou’. A song taken from their 1969 ‘Bayou Country’ album and eventually released as a the flipside of ‘Proud Mary’ on its 7inch pressing.

‘Proud Mary’ is a steamboat travelling up and down the river. All aboard!
