First Listen: Diviniti – I’m The Best (Honeycomb Vocal Mix) (Honeycomb Music)
The first thing coming to mind when listening to this gem is the obvious refining of its production. And the effect is instant, while just showcasing the essential… This somehow bringing back to the souvenir of Soul II Soul. Remember when they redefined the groove while getting rid of the ambient overproduction at the time…
As a result, there’s an undeniable impression of less is more on Josh Milan‘s approach. A minimalism which therefore enhances the purity of his production. And in the meantime leaves more space to the positivity of the message it spreads… From Diviniti‘s vocal delivery to both Dawn Tallman and Milan‘s backing performance. Not to mention the musical surroundings. The latter comin’ up with what seems like a double-bass over a Calypso-influenced beat spiced up with smooth rounded keys.
This has something of Stephanie Cooke‘s ‘Love Will’ which Blaze produced back in the day. And also of Zakes Bantwini‘s ‘Wasting My Time’ as mixed by Black Coffee. Dont’ you think?

In 2004, Diviniti’s first single, ‘Find A Way’ (produced by Pirahnahead) saw the light on the Women On Wax imprint. Since that time she has had dozens of additional releases including ‘Love Will Stay’, ‘Shine’, and ‘Learning To Love Me’. Not to mention ‘Everlasting Love’, and ‘Just Make it Deep’.
Diviniti has collaborated with producers such as Louie Vega, Pirahnahead, DJ Minx and Andy Compton among others. In addition to her studio recordings, she has also penned lyrics for artists such as Les Nubians, Carolyn Victorian and Carolyn Harding.
As an established songwriter and vocalist with an impressive body of work, Diviniti is set to build on the successes that she has already achieved in House Music and other genres in the future. ‘I’m The Best’ marks her debut on Josh Milan‘s Honeycomb Music label.
