DJ Jalal & Carolyn Victorian – The Strength Of A Man

Lost but not least! DJ Jalal presents Carolyn Victorian & Ovina Gregory – The Strength Of A Man (Consortium Muzik)

No video available for this, but instead a player!

From the vaults of the late Carl Proctor (aka Big Cee) Consortium Muzik label back in 2007. ‘The Strength Of A Man’ is one of these pieces of music you would probably see signed nowhere else. Therefore contributing to the consistent legacy of this label.

At the command, Chicago vet DJ/producer DJ Jalal. A man we spoke about on these shores a few months ago with the hypnotic instrumental ‘El Matador’. And a producer showing an extreme sensibility through his jazzy keyboard play. Although with an almost Classical sounding perspective over a moody drum pattern as a matter of fact. Meanwhile leavin’ the necessary space to the singers – and most likely Carolyn Victorian – to showcase the beauty of her tones. This in alternance with Ovina Gregory‘s spoken words.

The strength of a man (DJ Jalal). But first and foremost, his subtlety.

Hailing from Chicago, IL, Jalal Johnson, aka DJ Jalal, pretty much came up with what must be seen as a signature sound in the second half of the 2000. Thus standing at the crossroad between Deep House, Techno and Electro Jazz.

All in all, Jalal delivered the major part of his productions on the Consortium Muzik label. Beginning with ‘The Strength Of A Man’ along with Carolyn Victorian and Ovina Gregory. The latter receiving the remixing treatment courtesy of Abicah Soul a few months after. But also ‘Trak Wyze Presents DJ Jalal’. An EP that features his remix of ‘Happiness’ for Harold Brandon. Then he came to rework Andy Tamashi feat. Victoria T‘s ‘The Meaning Of Love’. And he also managed to brilliantly reshape his own ‘The Strength Of A Man’ as a part of ‘The Pilgrimage EP’.

Elsewhere, he brought his contribution to Gene King featuring Sacha‘s ‘That’s Enough For Me’ on Shines Records by the end of 2007. Then he also managed to come up with ‘El Matador’ on Unified Records. A track which we ended up considering as the Single Of The Year on the first version of IDMW.
