Single Of The Week: Fe’ Fea White feat. Jim Morris – It’s A Beautiful Day (Bveg)
It’s a beautiful day. But for what concerns us here, it’s first and foremost a beautiful track. A song conceived in the tradition of what we used to be given back at the beginning of the 80’s. We would talk back then about R&B/Dance. But also back in the days of Acid Jazz/Rare Groove when the Brits redefined R&B.
A Gospel-influenced song, ‘It’s A Beautiful Day’ is an uplifting gem. A cut in the caliber of the memorable ‘Did You Pray Today’ which Lisa Taylor released back in 1992. But the comparison stops here as both of them have their own distinctive vibe and style.
‘It’s A Beautiful Day’ has a more direct (if not in yer face) approach. Kinda hard not to see some parental link with Gwen McCrae‘s ‘Keep The Fire Burning’ when havin’ a listen to its rumbling bassline. If not with Leprechaun‘s ‘Loc-It-Up’. But also with Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway‘s ‘Back Together Again’ on what appears as a subtle reminder in the chorus hook.
In other words, massive and cleverly done, with extra props due to producer Ivan Johnson.
Comin’ up currently as our Single Of The Week, ‘It’s A Beautiful Day’ is undoubtledly one of the monuments of 2016! With Fe’ Fea White appearing as a voice to definitely count with…
