First Listen: Funmilayo Ngozi – Summer (Remix)
Right in time to celebrate the arrival of Summer in the Northern hemisphere… Here we go with the sultry Funmilayo Ngozi. Havin’ made herself quite a name in the Gospel circuit, the songstress brings us to Bossa/Jazz territories on the opening cut of her ‘Summer’ EP. Therefore makin’ obvious proof of her delicacy. Somehow sounding like jumpin’ on the notes the way a bee would from a flower to another as a matter of fact…
Hard not to think of Anita Baker to a certain extend. Meanwhile, and don’t ask me why, I can’t help myself thinkin’ of Omar‘s classic ‘There’s Nothing Like This’. With the lady havin’ much more on offer on her EP. This makin’ of it a pretty worth the check effort at the end. And, by that, a valuable investment. Don’t you think?

Funmilayo Ngozi is definitely a name to pinpoint. Hailing from Atlanta, GA, this award winning international Gospel recording artist has devoted her professional career to studies in music and educational leadership. But also main stage productions and operatic competitions throughout the Southeastern states. This resulting in numerous accolades which she got for her service in education and as a recording artist.
She pretty much made an impression in the Gospel circuit with the release of her debut-single – ‘I Know A Man’ – back in 2013. Meanwhile givin’ a bigger display as to what she’s about two years after with her ‘Unconstrained’ album. This eventually bringin’ her to collaborate with French producer Tom Glide. Then release a new single by the likes of ‘All I Need Is You’ in 2016.
Now, with the Summer landing on the Northern hemisphere Ngozi comes up with a seasonal soothing 6 tracker. Beginning with its title track. The latter most likely showcasin’ her inclination for Bossa/Jazz vibes as a matter of fact. With others cuts from her EP highlighting her versatility. Meanwhile embracing R&B/Jazz territories on ‘Abide In Me’ and ‘W.Y.A. Where You Are’. If not Neo Soul on ‘Love’. This makin’ of her a name to bookmark from now on.
