LeMel Humes – Ain’t Nobody Like You (Remix)

Tennerz: LeMel Humes – Ain’t Nobody Like You (Timmy Regisford Remix) (Quantize Recordings)

Ain’t nobody like you! The kind of message we could have thought of for an inclusion in our 10 essential Valentines mellow jams… Although on a groovier tip to say the least.

As a matter of fact, some of you might have a feeling of a deja vu regarding this song. Or should I rather say of an already heard. Which is the case as R&B songstress Miki Howard sung it in a lascivious mood back in 1992, as a part of her ‘Femme Fatale’ album. With the same LeMel Humes writing and producing it for her.

Now 25 years after, Humes takes the centerstage this time, eventually making his debut on DJ Spen‘s Quantize Recordings label. Unsurprisingly, he turns it in a way different vein, therefore showing how he can brilliantly sing too. With Shelter Don Timmy Regisford giving it a one of a kind irresistible and timeless Dance feel. In a spirit reminding of the infectious Latin Soul Mix which Louie Vega did on the 3 Winans Brothers‘Dance’ a couple of years ago.

From then on, givin’ it a listen seems the least one could do…

Considering the career of Buffalo, NY-born LeMel Humes, I guess it’s fair to say he’s the perfect example of an accomplished builder.
Studying Civil engineering at The University Of Buffalo, he went on to work for his father’s construction company. Some of their projects including the Buffalo Hilton, The Buffalo Marriott and The Buffalo City Mission. But the man, who relocated to Los Angeles, CA, also took some role as a composer, songwriter and producer.

As a matter of fact, one can find the first traces of him back in 1982 as the producer of the highly sought after ‘Dance So Fine’ for the transient Nijel guise on Fantasy Records. Some mysterious name to me back then speaking of which I red somewhere this was none other but Humes himself.

From then, he would collaborate with an impressive list of luminaries. From Miki Howard to Stacy Lattisaw. But also Stephanie Mills or Lavine Hudson. Not to mention Thelma and Whitney Houston.

Delivered with a remix courtesy of Timmy Regisford, ‘Ain’t Nobody Like You’ marks a pretty much surprising return from LeMel Humes after some 35 years. A second package seeing the light soon after with remixing work courtesy of DJ Spinna.
