First Listen: Brian Power presents Rebecca Scales – So Long Gone (Soulhousemusic)
What is the principle of music if not to recapture a feeling and give it the best translation? Just like a pic with the right contrasts. Or via words which will engender the right suggestion…
On this specific matter, and regardless the presence of additional remixes, I would tend to think the original mix perfectly fits with the content of the song.
A bittersweet love affair always drives something of melancholic, and Brian Power managed to come up with the right arrangements. Therefore providing Rebecca Snales‘ performance with just what it takes to enhance its emotional content. This is nothing but talent on both sides. And most likely what counts at the end.
So long gone… Let’s see about your feelings on this.

Mr. Brian Power, formerly Mr. B from the Nobody’s, started late in life as a DJ. He therefore has been involved in the House music scene from the late 80’s / early 90’s as a promoter. Most notably at the Limelight in Shaftesbury Avenue.
Brian’s main night ‘Buzz House’ became a regular thing on the London nightclub scene. He moved on from there after 18 very successful months. He would spend the next 5 years taking his brand of nightlife culture around the country, putting on various parties and festivals.
Disillusioned with the music scene Brian took a step back. He took his business knowledge and channeled it into other directions and areas of entrepreneurialism. This afforded him the luxury of using his creativity and ability to hone his own DJ skills.
In 2014, he replied to an advert to join Freek FM as one of their regular DJ’s. This became more of a learning curve for Brian… Let’s call it an apprenticeship. His musical knowledge was always evident and he soon became known as Mr. Selecta.
Brian moved on from Freek FM to join Mi-Soul, where he presents the early morning show called ‘All Things House’ (Thursday 01:00am – 03:00am). What’s it about? Its all about his love of soulful House… and where the DJ leaves his ego at the door!
In addition to this Brian has also launched his own label by the likes of Soulhousemusic.
– Rebecca Scales kickstarted her career in Manchester, freestyling over house music in the early 2000’s. She soon got to work with various producers, writing and performing not only House and Dance records but Hip-Hop, Chill Out and Soul.
“Performing is my life, I have been singing and writing all genres of music”, she says. Collaborating with different people, from TJ Hitch to DJ Marble. Not to mention the So Called ScumBags which eventually got her dealing with Dubstep.
She more recently has worked with Femi Fem (Young Disciples) and got introduced to Brian Power where the two quickly recorded ‘So Long Gone’.
