New York Port Authority – I Got It (Invictus)

Most Wanted! New York Port Authority – I Got It (Invictus)

“I Got It!” No doubt as to how they really did back in 1977. New York Port Authority disappeared almost as quicky as they appeared tough. And this despite some undeniable appeal and a really exciting approach. The best illustration being this Funk gem which Brian Holland produced, enlightened with a firing horn part over a slamming slapped bassline. A cut which opened their one and only album, ‘Thousand Miles From Home’. In a vein somehow reminding of Players Association

What’s the value of your vinyl record?

New York Port Authority was a 7 piece band hailing from Amityville, Long Island, NY. Among their members, one could note the presence of David Conley, mostly remembered soon after as a the leading force behind Surface.

They released one album on Invictus, a label which Brian Holland, Edward Holland and Lamont Dozier launched following royalties disputes with Motown.

‘I Got It’ is definitely the stand out cut from the latter. Also worth the listen, their cover version of El Coco‘s ‘I’m Mad As Hell’. A joint which they recorded along with Detroit band 100 Proof Aged In Soul
