This Beat Is Mine! (*) Paul Simpson feat. Terri Jeffries – Everybody’s A Star (Cooltempo)
How lucky we’ve been back at the end of the 80’s with so many incredible top class pieces of music around. No matter what, it feels like they were coming from everywhere. Like here in the UK for instance. From Acid Jazz to Rare Groove, not to mention Brit-Soul. But also Stateside, in Chicago, New York or New Jersey. We’ve been livin’ such a creative and exciting period.
Back to this jam, was it House, Garage or an updated (Dance) version of R&B? Who gives a damn at the end, as this music happened to be so enlightening. ‘Everybody’s A Star’… Just the way we felt back then. Eventually dancin’ until the morning lites. Not that far from some of L.A. Mix productions as a matter of fact.
You could tell how Paul Simpson perfectly integrated his obvious Disco/Funk background on this firing piece. Just the way he did with Adeva on the memorable ‘Musical Freedom’. But this time with Terri Jeffries singing her heart out on this. Quite honestly, I just can’t understand how such a talent hasn’t managed to release more than one album at the end.
We just need more of these. And I suppose even more in the troubled times we’re living…
This Beat Is Mine! (*)
Once in a week (on Wednesdays), we leave you at the command of IDMW…
For this to happen, nothing’s more easy… What you’ve just got to do is drop us a line while using our contact form and let us know about your favorite piece of music (*), along with a review explaining what it suggests you and why people should dig it. And the best of it will be given a publication with your credit the week after.
With warm thanks to London-based correspondent, Gary Nichols, for this week’s suggestion…
Gladly welcoming yours to be published next Wednesday. On your marks!
