Prince – Sign O The Times (LP Version)

Classics: Prince – Sign O The Times (Paisley Park)

Superlatives are legion whenever comin’ to evoke Prince. An undeniable flamboyant stage presence. Some extravagant dress and make-up. But also an outstanding vocal range, an unequalled versatility, a continuous innovator… The man was / had all of this, no less. All in all explaining the impact his legacy had on his contemporaries as a matter of fact.

He used to say: “The most important thing is to be true to yourself, but I also like danger. That’s what’s missing from Pop Music today. There’s no excitement or mystery.” This, most likely explaining how he always managed to be like steps ahead from anybody. Eventually adding: “The key to longevity is to learn every aspect of music that you can…”

The leading track to his 1987 album of the likes… ‘Sign O The Times’ stands as one of the most relevant illustrations as to who he was. And in the meantime, as to what he was into. Showcasing his ability to merge classic and modern Rhythm & Blues fragrances into one song. Eventually givin’ it an Electro/Funk feel, meanwhile dealing with socio-political problems. From AIDS to gang violence, natural disasters, poverty and drug abuse. But also the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster and the threat of nuclear holocaust. Therefore makin’ of ‘Sign O The Times’ one of the most powerful songs ever. With the latter remaining so up to date almost 30 years after its release.

On Apr. 21, 2016 at 09:43 am, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call. With the latter requesting for an ambulance be sent to Prince‘s home at Paisley Park. The caller initially told the dispatcher that an unidentified person at the home was unconscious. Then moments later said he was dead, and finally identified the person as Prince
