First listen: Rhemi feat. Vanessa Freeman – Rise Up (Rhemi Music)
House not Jazz? Jazz not House? Regardless how you might perceive it, this jam is nothing but freakin’ dope. From the very first note, Neil Pierce and Ziggy Funk rock the house. Meanwhile reviving some of their influences. They most likely seem to take on where they left with the recent ‘Give It To Ya’. In other words, delivering a bouncing Jazz/Funk feel. With Ziggy Funk jammin’ frenetically with his vibe over a slammin’ beat.
Singer Vanessa Freeman therefore finds herself in the right environment to spread what stands as an uplifting message. With ‘Rise Up’ being all about taking the time to realize what’s goin’ on around us. Then hopefully make a change for the better whenever possible. Time to ‘Rise Up’!

– Rhemi is a production duo and record label based in London, with the sole purpose of releasing great quality House music.
Behind this imprint and production team we have one of U.K.’s leading DJ/producers Neil Pierce. A man who also made his way as a promoter for throwing amazing secret studio parties and Club Nights in London. Meanwhile, producer/musician Ziggy Funk made himself a serious reputation with his production work on various labels. But also for his DJing, throwing down eclectic sets from House to Funk/Soul music.
After working together on previous records in the past, the two decided to come together permanently. This resulting in the launch of the label – Rhemi Music – during the Summer of 2013. With every release, they grew from strength to strength and are now recognised as a label and production duo to look out for.
The ambition for releasing quality music is at the forefront for them. And you can expect it always, whether it be original work, remixing or through live shows…
A quick look at Rhemi‘s repertoire suffices to realize how the groove is at the epicenter of their productions. Most oftenly dealing with jazz and funk vibes. Such as on ‘Shake Your Body’ or ‘Give It To Ya’, meanwhile displaying a live feel with the help of high caliber musicians and / or singers…
Among their highlights, ‘Diamond’ and ‘I Can’t Wait’ along with HanLei. 2 hot gems we welcome as our Single Of The Week at their respective time. With the latter standing as our track of the year 2016. Meanwhile both ‘Back To The One’ featuring Alex Mills and ‘Rise Up’ featuring Vanessa Freeman remain essential investments. This in addition to the stellar Discoid ‘Beat Within’ featuring Cassius, with remix courtesy of Opolopo. Not to mention the blowing ‘We Had Enough’ featuring SheZar. And, more recently, ‘Feel Me’ featuring Ilana Lorraine. Or ‘In The Morning’ by Louie Vega Starring Adeva on the remix front.
Meanwhile the beginning of 2018 sees Rhemi adding a brilliant new episode to their ongoing odyssee along with HanLei with the firing ‘The Real Thing’…
– Singer, songwriter Vanessa Freeman is one of the most exciting black females voices hailing from the U.K. A true North London girl – her parents moved from Jamaica in the late 50’s – she started singing when she joined the local church at the age of 12. This leading her to work with UK Gospel famous Noel Richards and Matt Redmond. Then tour around the world.
The rise of the UK Acid Jazz scene and Funk revival in the early 90’s brought her into the studio for the first time. She was lead vocalist and songwriter for The Mighty Truth who were signed to Tony Coleman‘s label Tongue and Groove. From there, Vanessa went on to collaborate with Brazilian Jazz Funk legends Azymuth. This writing and recording a track for their come-back album on Far Out Recordings. This being how she caught up the attention of Broken Beat activists Kaidi Tatham, 4Hero, Bugz In The Attic and others.
Vanessa soon after became a regular feature of Nathan Haines‘ band. This being pretty much how Chillifunk label head Lofty got her to release ‘Shades’, her only album to date, with producer Phil Asher back, in 2004.
The list of those she’s been collaborating with since then is pretty much illustrative of her versatility. From Reel People to King Britt, Mr Scruff and Rainer Trüby among others. Not to mention Rhemi.
