Single Of The Week: Robb Scott – Neptune Atmosphere (You Didn’t Feel My Love) (Expansion)
Like it or not, loneliness stands among the biggest fears in life. Thus pushin’ many people to jump from a relationship to another without transition. Meanwhile eventually reproducin’ the same mistake(s) which most likely engender the same results. “You’ve a Neptune atmosphere, cold wind blowing ‘round here. Scars, old scores, shadows that you cast, punishing me with your past. You didn’t feel my love…”
Here we go with the theme of Robb Scott‘s vibrant ‘Neptune Atmosphere’. A song that’s been around for some time. With the good news being its official release. And this on Expansion Records. A label the name of which speaks for itself for the lovers of music with that something special…
From the very first notes, you can tell. ‘Neptune Atmopshere’ belongs to the First League. Bringin’ us back in the days when it was all about jammin’ along with musicianship. Back to a period when jazzmen would join funksters and Soul singers then let their music brilliantly speak. And eventually cross new boundaries.
As a matter of fact, ‘Neptune Atmosphere’ has something of Rufus & Chaka Khan but not only. Meanwhile pushin’ forward a local tradition that’s seen many British artists establishin’ themselves as purveyors of some of the hottest grooves around. From Incognito to The Haggis Horns. Not to mention James Taylor Quartet, RSL or Smoove & Turrell among others.
From its rumblin’ bassline courtesy of Yolanda Charles to its sparklin’ drummin’ by the likes of Francesco Mendolia. This in addition to enlightening strings and blowing trumpet solos and stellar arrangements… ‘Neptune Atmosphere’ has everything of a timeless masterpiece. With extra props to Gina Foster along with Austin Howard and Matthew David in the backing vocals for their touching performance. All in all makin’ of it a serious contender for supremacy in our 10 essential 2018 tracks…
