Classics: Ruby Turner – It’s Gonna Be Alright (Extended Mix) (Jive)
‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’… Jamaica-born songstress Ruby Turner couldn’t have dreamed of a better title. This when she happened to top the US charts with this jam of the likes by the beginning of 1990. Thus standing among the rare British artists who reached the #1 status on the R&B Chart Stateside.
So what we have here with ‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’ is a typical Brit-Soul gem. Itself borrowing the so to say Soul II Soul drumbeat one can find on ‘Keep On Movin” and ‘Back To Life’. With the latter comin’ from Grand Central Station‘s ‘The Jam’ as a matter of fact.
With production work by the likes of Jolyon Skinner and Loris Holland, and remix courtesy Bryan ‘Chuck’ New , ‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’ pretty much showcased the purity of Turner‘s voice. Just the way her cover version of ‘I Would Rather Go Blind’ did too, although on a way different vein.
Last but not least, ‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’ eventually appeared in an alternative remix by Blacksmith. Thus givin’ it a street edge in a mood somehow reminding of Mica Paris‘ ‘South Of The River’.
Both have definitely their moments…
