Classics: Solu Music feat. KimBlee – Fade (Original Mix) (Solu Music)
‘Fade’ verb [ I or T ]: to (cause to) lose colour, brightness, or strength gradually (Cambridge English Dictionary). But wait a minute, as ‘Fade’ has another definition which could be the song of a lifetime for its creators. Something I pretty much felt back in 2001 when I first gave a listen to the promo copy of ‘Fade’ soon after receiving it from the post.
If there was one word to qualify this piece of music, then bliss would be it. Howie Caspe and Dano Nathanson literally caused the surprise back in 2001 with this deep and vibrant joint featuring singer Kimblee which marked their debut from almost nowhere and would stand as their most memorable delivery ever, despite being followed by other worth the listen pieces of theirs until 2006. A cut which François K eventually licensed soon after on his Wave Music label…
Solu Music is a New York based record label. But also the songwriting / musician / producing duo of Howie Caspe and Dano Nathanson.
The twosome met in the Spring of 1998 when Caspe (keyboards) joined Nathanson (guitar) in a popular cover band. From the first moment playing together, they realized they were musical counterparts and immediately started to focus original projects. The duo made a huge impact on the House scene with their first release, ‘Fade’ – featuring KimBlee. A cut which François K soon after licensed on his Wave Music imprint soon after. ‘Fade’, a global club anthem, put Solu on the map and its immense success set the tone for all future Solu Music releases.
Since 2001, Solu has created a distinct musical style. Blending House, Soul, R&B, World and a slew of other influences. The duo has discovered and developed vocalists including Kai Martin and KimBlee. With both of them contributing giving smooth and soulful sounds to the critically acclaimed album, ‘Affirmation’.
Solu Music took an extended break as Howie and Dano focused on a range of new projects. But according to what one might read on their site, some new project of them should appear anytime now…
