Tavares – Got To Find My Way Back To You

Lost but not least! Tavares – Got To Find My Way Back To You (RCA)

On the heels of ‘Loveline’ two years before… Tavares continuing their mutation from a Disco/Soul to a R&B group. With ‘Got To Find My Way Back To You’ comin’ up in a flow somehow reminding the productions of Leon F Sylvers III. In other words, Shalamar, Dynasty or The Whispers. The impression is pretty much obvious on the intro. With its rhythmic guitar line sprakling over a bouncing bass-driven rhythm pattern.

Kinda strange noticing ‘Got To Find My Way Back To You’ didn’t do anything than a #24 position in the US R&B charts back then. Pretty much overshadowed by the lazy M.O.R. ‘A Penny For Your Thoughts’. And this despite its stellar post-production work courtesy of David Todd and Nick Martinelli

What’s the value of your vinyl record?

Formerly known as Chubby And The Turnpikes, The Tavares brothers changed their name to Tavares when signing with Capitol back in 1973.

They released a total of 11 albums for the label. Meanwhile delivering an impressive series of classics. From ‘It Only Takes A Minute’, their biggest success ever to ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’ which is probably their most famous one. Not to mention ‘Whodunit’ to a lesser extend.

The title track of their final album for Capitol, ‘Loveline’ saw them embarking on a slightly different artistic path. Just like the groovier ‘Got To Find My Way Back To You’, taken from the aptly titled ‘New Directions’ album which marked their debut on RCA.
