The Hollies – Draggin’ My Heels (12″ Promo)

Most Wanted! The Hollies – Draggin’ My Heels (12” Promo Special Disco Version) (Epic)

I bet The Hollies are far from being the first name coming to mind whenever landing on these shores…
That said, the history of the recording industry has led to so many weird situations. Beginning with licensing deals. And even more at a period – the second half of the 70’s – when the labels had more freedom to release whatever they wanted in their respective countries!

Lookin’ back then (in 1977), nothing really could destine UK Pop group The Hollies to have any impact on the dancefloors. Except the fact that almost everybody was tempted to make oneself a name in the clubs. In other words, the Disco scene…

This is pretty much what happened to ‘Draggin’ My Heels’, taken from the 1976 ‘Russian Roulette’ album released on Polydor-UK. A piece issued as a promo 12″ Stateside the year after on Epic. Although more from the label which, for some obscure reasons, passed on the album itself…

No wonder why, on such conditions, few are the ones who’ve heard of it back then. The recognition coming almost 30 years later after Louie Vega included it on his ‘Choice’ compilation for Azuli Records. With, as a direct result, cohorts of bidders trying to get their hands on it on eBay!

The Hollies saw the light at the initiative of schoolmates Graham Nash and Allan Clarke. They made themselves one of the most popular Rock bands in the UK. Paving their way in the 60’s and 70’s with hits such as ‘Bus Stop’, ‘He Ain’t heavy, He’s My Brother’ (featuring Elton John on piano) and ‘The Air That I Breathe’.

They are still in activities nowadays, although their line-up has changed a lot along with time.

NB: Also taken from ‘Russian Roulette’, ‘Wiggle That Wotsit’, a(nother) excursion into Disco territory, charted only in The Netherlands, Sweden, and New Zealand (Wikipedia)
